Description

The Reinforced Steam Pipe is a Steam Pipe encased in a shielding-alloy jacket, made for the one place ordinary pipes cannot survive: inside a working reactor room. A running reactor melts unprotected steam pipes there one at a time, roughly every 8 seconds, and melts them first the moment a meltdown starts; the Reinforced Steam Pipe carries the same #alaindustrial:meltproof tag as the reactor's own shielding shell, so it stays intact through both. Like the plain Steam Pipe, it moves only steam — 50 mB per tick, one bucket a second, along a 50 mB segment, with no energy cost — and never connects to a Fluid Pipe of either kind. It does connect to an ordinary Steam Pipe, continuing the same line. The body is the reactor casing's dark graphite, but the ribs and collar bands are brass rather than the Reinforced Fluid Pipe's teal, so a glance tells steam from water.

Six Reinforced Steam Pipes come from a 3×3 crafting grid: six Steam Pipes at the corners and edges, two Shielding Alloy Plates on the sides, and one Shielding Alloy Reinforced Plate in the center. The recipe unlocks once a player holds a Steam Pipe and both plates. In a working reactor, the Reinforced Steam Pipe carries steam from the top of a reactor column, through the Reactor Inlet, and out to an ordinary Steam Pipe feeding a Steam Nozzle — only the run inside the sealed room needs the reinforced version. A Reinforced Fluid Pipe that was carrying steam in an older world converts to a Reinforced Steam Pipe automatically on the first load after an update, so existing reactor plumbing keeps working without a rebuild.

Guide

Protecting a reactor's steam line

  1. 1

    Gather steam pipes and plates

Hold a Steam Pipe, a Shielding Alloy Plate, and a Shielding Alloy Reinforced Plate to unlock the recipe; the 3×3 grid needs six Steam Pipes, two Shielding Alloy Plates, and one Shielding Alloy Reinforced Plate for 6 Reinforced Steam Pipes.

  2. 2

Run the line from the reactor column

Place Reinforced Steam Pipes from the top of a Reactor Column to the Reactor Inlet — this is the segment inside the sealed reactor room that a running reactor would otherwise melt.

  3. 3

    Continue outside with ordinary pipe

Past the Reactor Inlet, switch to an ordinary Steam Pipe leading to a Steam Nozzle; outside the room nothing melts the pipe anyway, so the reinforced version is not needed there.

  4. 4

    Let old worlds convert automatically

Any Reinforced Fluid Pipe that used to carry steam becomes a Reinforced Steam Pipe by itself the first time the world loads after an update — no manual replacement needed.

Tip

The brass ribs and collar bands are the visual cue — if a pipe inside the reactor room still shows the Reinforced Fluid Pipe's teal color, it is carrying the wrong fluid tag for that spot.

How to craft this block

Frequently asked questions

What makes the Reinforced Steam Pipe different from the Steam Pipe?

The Reinforced Steam Pipe carries the #alaindustrial:meltproof tag from its shielding-alloy jacket, so a working reactor or a meltdown cannot melt it, while an ordinary Steam Pipe in the same room melts about once every 8 seconds.

Does the Reinforced Steam Pipe connect to fluid pipes?

No — the Reinforced Steam Pipe carries only steam and never connects to a Fluid Pipe or a Reinforced Fluid Pipe; it does connect to an ordinary Steam Pipe.

How much steam does the Reinforced Steam Pipe move?

50 mB per tick per line, the same throughput as the Reactor Inlet and the ordinary Steam Pipe, with a 50 mB buffer per segment and no energy cost.

Where does the Reinforced Steam Pipe actually need to be used?

Only inside a sealed reactor room, between the top of a Reactor Column and the Reactor Inlet — outside the room an ordinary Steam Pipe is unaffected and works fine.

What happens to old worlds after an update?

A Reinforced Fluid Pipe that was carrying steam converts into a Reinforced Steam Pipe automatically the first time the world loads, matching the same rule the plain Steam Pipe follows.
