Description

Mutagen Dust is the biological branch's tier-1 material in Ala Industrial — a powder that exists only as the output of an Incubator create mutation, with lapis lazuli as the input. One attempt consumes 1 lapis lazuli and 8000 EU (the Incubator draws 8 EU/t for 1000 ticks), and a uranium ingot in the fuel slot charges three attempts before settling as Depleted Uranium. The base success chance is 25%, 5% of attempts yield Irradiated Slag instead, and any other miss simply destroys the lapis lazuli, so the dust is genuinely scarce rather than merely expensive.

Every success also rolls a rarity grade — Common 70%, Rare 20%, Epic 8%, or Legendary 2% — and a graded Mutagen Dust no longer stacks with a plain one. The grade has a use: feeding a graded item into a later mutation burns it for +5, +10, or +15 percentage points on the success roll, capped at 95%. In the current release no recipe consumes Mutagen Dust; the biological branch's planned tiers (living mutagen and a gene matrix) continue from it, and the mod's legendary-mutation challenge advancement wears this dust as its icon. Mutagen Dust is available only in Ala Industrial for Minecraft 26.2 (Java Edition) on Fabric or NeoForge.

How to get Mutagen Dust in Ala Industrial

  1. 1

    Craft a Create Chip

Combine an Empty Chip, a diamond, an echo shard, and a Uranium Plate in a crafting table. The Create Chip selects the Incubator's creation mode and is never consumed.

  2. 2

    Build and power the Incubator

Place the Incubator and put any glass block on top to form the dome, then connect LV power — the machine draws 8 EU/t and buffers 8000 EU.

  3. 3

    Load uranium fuel

Drop a uranium ingot into the fuel slot. One ingot charges three mutation attempts and settles as Depleted Uranium afterwards.

  4. 4

    Run the create mutation

Insert the Create Chip and 1 lapis lazuli, then wait for the 1000-tick cycle. The roll lands at the end: 25% base success, 5% Irradiated Slag, and a plain miss destroys the lapis lazuli.

  5. 5

    Spend grades deliberately

Each success rolls Common, Rare, Epic, or Legendary (70/20/8/2%). A graded Mutagen Dust burned in a later mutation adds +5/+10/+15 percentage points to that attempt, so decide which roll deserves the boost.

Tier-1 only

The current release ships only tier-1 create recipes, where a failed attempt loses the input. Planned higher tiers return the input intact.

Frequently asked questions

How do you get Mutagen Dust in Ala Industrial?

Run a create mutation in the Incubator: 1 lapis lazuli plus a Create Chip and a uranium-ingot charge produces 1 Mutagen Dust at a cost of 8000 EU per attempt.

Can you craft Mutagen Dust at a crafting table?

No. Mutagen Dust exists only as an Incubator mutation output. The crafting table is needed just for the Create Chip itself — an Empty Chip, a diamond, an echo shard, and a Uranium Plate.

What is the success chance for Mutagen Dust?

The base create chance is 25%. Burning a graded input adds +5/+10/+15 percentage points (Rare/Epic/Legendary), with the total capped at 95%.

What does a rarity grade on Mutagen Dust do?

Every success rolls Common (70%), Rare (20%), Epic (8%), or Legendary (2%). Graded dust no longer stacks with plain dust, and its grade can be burned for a success bonus on a later mutation.

What is Mutagen Dust used for?

In the current release Mutagen Dust is a terminal material — no recipe consumes it. The biological branch's planned tiers continue from it, so surplus dust is worth keeping.

Is Mutagen Dust available on Bedrock or older Minecraft versions?

No. Ala Industrial is a Java Edition mod for Minecraft 26.2 and runs on both Fabric and NeoForge; there is no Bedrock version of Mutagen Dust.
