Description
Ice forms naturally on the surface of water in cold biomes — frozen oceans, snowy taigas, spike formations, and frozen rivers — and can also be created by placing water blocks anywhere a Frost Walker enchantment is active. The texture is a translucent pale blue with subtle internal cracks, and entities walking across the surface slide noticeably faster than on solid ground, an effect that compounds across long stretches.
Mining without Silk Touch melts the block back into water (or destroys it if mined over a non-water surface). Mining with Silk Touch returns the cube intact, the only practical way to relocate it. Two upgraded variants exist: a packed form (generated naturally in spike biomes, faster sliding, no melting in normal light) and a blue version (compressed from the packed form, even faster sliding — the fastest travel surface in the game when paired with boats). Builders use the material for arctic palaces, igloo flooring, and high-speed boat highways.
