Water
Water is the flowing fluid that hydrates farmland, powers bubble-column elevators, and forms an infinite source from just two source blocks.
Description
Water powers many core mechanics: it hydrates farmland within four blocks to speed crop growth, carries items and mobs along channels, cancels fall damage, and extinguishes fire. Combined with Soul Sand or a Magma Block, Water forms upward or downward bubble-column elevators, while Water meeting flowing lava produces cobblestone, stone, or obsidian. Since the 1.13 Update Aquatic, many blocks such as stairs, slabs, and fences can be waterlogged, letting builders blend Water seamlessly into detailed underwater and coastal structures.

How to get and use Water in Minecraft
-
1
Craft a bucket
Smelt three iron ingots and arrange them in a V shape on the crafting grid to make an empty bucket.
-
2
Fill the bucket
Right-click any water source block with the empty bucket to collect a Water Bucket.
-
3
Place the water
Right-click the bucket on a block face to release a Water source exactly where you need it.
-
4
Make it infinite
Place two source blocks one square apart and fill the gap, or use a 2x2 hole, so the pool refills endlessly.
In the Nether, Water evaporates the instant it is placed; store it in a cauldron if you need water below the Overworld.

Frequently asked questions
Can you craft Water in Minecraft?
No. Water cannot be crafted. You collect it with a bucket from any ocean, river, or lake, or scoop it from a cauldron.
How do you make an infinite water source?
Dig a 2x2 hole and place water in two opposite corners. The center fills with new source blocks that never run out.
Does Water work in the Nether?
No. Water evaporates the instant it is placed in the Nether. The only way to keep it there is inside a cauldron.
How far does Water hydrate farmland?
A single Water source hydrates farmland within four blocks in every direction, keeping crops moist for faster growth.
What happens when Water touches lava?
Flowing Water turns lava source blocks into obsidian, and flowing lava into cobblestone or stone, depending on how the streams meet.
