Description

Soul Sand fills entire valleys in the Nether — known as soul sand valleys, complete with skeletal mobs and ghastly blue ambient particles. The texture shows tortured faces pressed against the surface, screaming silently. The block is the most distinctive movement-modifier in the game: every step on it is around twenty percent slower than walking on solid ground.

A shovel is the fastest mining tool, but any tool drops the block. Beyond aesthetics, Soul Sand has three concrete uses. Placed under flowing water, it creates an upward bubble column that pushes players, mobs, and items toward the surface — vital for elevators and breeding-mob transport. Three blocks arranged in a T with three wither skeleton skulls on top summons the Wither boss. And as a flame substrate it produces blue soul fire instead of regular fire, which deals more damage to entities and forms the base of soul torches and lanterns.
