Description

Water Cell is an IndustrialCraft 2 fluid container that holds one unit of water inside a reusable-looking tin capsule. Players make a Water Cell by holding an Empty Cell and right-clicking a water source block, exactly like filling a bucket, or by combining an Empty Cell with a Water Bucket in the crafting grid. Empty Cells themselves come from tin — in IC2 Classic 4 tin ingots craft 16 cells, while IC2 Experimental forms them from tin plates in a Metal Former. The most important role of the Water Cell is feeding IndustrialCraft 2's cooling chain: water is enriched with Lapis Lazuli Dust in a Canning Machine to create Coolant, which fills the Coolant Cells that absorb heat inside a Nuclear Reactor. Because IC2 nuclear power is heat-driven, a steady supply of Water Cells underpins safe reactor operation and the crafting of Overclocker Upgrades. The Water Cell is a single-use capsule, so it is consumed in most recipes rather than returned. Keep a stack on hand when scaling up an IC2 reactor or processing plant, since water is the cheapest input in the whole nuclear pipeline.

IndustrialCraft 2 Guide

How to make and use a Water Cell in IndustrialCraft 2

  1. 1

    Craft Empty Cells from tin

Make Empty Cells from tin — 4 tin ingots yield 16 cells in IC2 Classic, or extrude tin plates in a Metal Former in IC2 Experimental.

  2. 2

    Fill the cell with water

Hold an Empty Cell and right-click a water source block, just like a bucket, to turn it into a Water Cell.

  3. 3

    Enrich the water into Coolant

Place the water in a Canning Machine with Lapis Lazuli Dust in Fluid Enrich mode to brew Coolant for reactor Coolant Cells.

  4. 4

    Feed your Nuclear Reactor

Use the resulting Coolant Cells inside a Nuclear Reactor to absorb heat and keep the reactor running safely.

Important

The Water Cell is a single-use capsule and is consumed in recipes; you can also fill a cell straight from a water source like a bucket in IC2 Experimental.

Frequently asked questions

How do you make a Water Cell in IndustrialCraft 2?

Hold an Empty Cell and right-click a water source like a bucket, or craft an Empty Cell together with a Water Bucket.

How do you get Empty Cells?

Empty Cells come from tin — 4 tin ingots make 16 cells in IC2 Classic, or tin plates are formed in a Metal Former in IC2 Experimental.

What is the Water Cell used for?

The Water Cell mainly feeds the cooling chain: its water is enriched into Coolant for the Coolant Cells that cool Nuclear Reactors.

Is the Water Cell reusable?

No. The Water Cell is a single-use capsule that is consumed in most IndustrialCraft 2 recipes rather than returned.

How is Coolant made from water?

Enrich water with Lapis Lazuli Dust in a Canning Machine set to Fluid Enrich mode to produce Coolant for reactors.
