Uranium Ore
Worldgen IC2 ore in stone at low Y levels; needs iron pickaxe; processed via Macerator for nuclear fuel.
Description
Step-by-step guide
How to mine and process Uranium Ore in IC2
-
1
Prepare an iron pickaxe
Craft at least an iron pickaxe before searching for Uranium Ore. Stone and wooden tools will destroy the block without dropping anything, wasting the vein.
-
2
Descend to low Y levels
Mine down into stone at low Y levels in the Overworld, in a depth range similar to vanilla diamond. Veins are small, usually 1–3 blocks, so branch-mine across a wide area.
-
3
Mine the full vein
When you find Uranium Ore, mine every connected block. Each block drops itself as an item, so collect all of them before moving on.
-
4
Macerate the ore
Return to base and feed the Uranium Ore blocks into a Macerator. Each block becomes Crushed Uranium Ore, the first intermediate product of the IC2 nuclear chain.
-
5
Wash and centrifuge
Process Crushed Uranium Ore in an Ore Washing Plant, then in a Thermal Centrifuge, to obtain Tiny Piles of Uranium-235 and Uranium-238 used to craft nuclear fuel rods.
Always carry a backup iron or diamond pickaxe; mining Uranium Ore with the wrong tool gives zero drops and the vein cannot be recovered.

Frequently asked questions
What pickaxe do I need to mine Uranium Ore?
An iron pickaxe or better. Stone and wooden pickaxes will break the block without producing any drop.
At what Y level does Uranium Ore generate?
It spawns in stone at low Y levels in the Overworld, in a depth range similar to vanilla diamond ore, in small veins of 1–3 blocks.
Can I smelt Uranium Ore in a furnace?
No. The block drops itself and a vanilla furnace produces nothing useful. You must process it through IC2 machines such as the Macerator.
What is Uranium Ore used for?
It is processed via Macerator, Ore Washing Plant and Thermal Centrifuge into Uranium-235 and Uranium-238, which are combined into fuel rods for the IC2 Nuclear Reactor.
Does Uranium Ore exist without the IC2 mod?
No. It is added by IndustrialCraft 2 and only appears on modpacks running the IC2 Experimental modpack.
