Description

Tritium is the radioactive hydrogen isotope in IndustrialCraft 2 Experimental, and in the game it exists only as a product of neutron irradiation: a Tritium Fuel Rod appears when a Lithium Fuel Rod sits next to a Uranium or MOX Fuel Rod inside a running Nuclear Reactor, absorbing the neutron flux while the reactor operates. The input material is the Lithium Fuel Rod itself, and the official IC2 wiki states plainly that Lithium Fuel Rods can not currently be crafted, so the production chain starts from whatever lithium rods the player can actually obtain. Tritium never generates naturally in any biome or ore and is never an output of a crafting grid.

The Tritium Fuel Rod is catalogued as a Reactor Component, and beyond the conversion recipe the official wiki fixes no use for it: no machine and no recipe in IndustrialCraft 2 Experimental is documented to consume tritium, and the fusion reactors burning tritium with deuterium that some guides describe belong to other mods, not to IndustrialCraft 2. How a finished Tritium Fuel Rod behaves inside a reactor chamber is likewise not fixed by the wiki and should be checked in game. The reliable part of the chain is the conversion itself: an adjacent Uranium or MOX Fuel Rod in the same reactor chamber provides the neutron radiation that turns the lithium rod into tritium.

IndustrialCraft 2 Guide

How to breed Tritium in IndustrialCraft 2

  1. 1

    Stock a Lithium Fuel Rod

The Lithium Fuel Rod is the material the reactor will irradiate; the official wiki states it can not currently be crafted, so secure one in game before starting.

  2. 2

Build and start a Nuclear Reactor

Place a Nuclear Reactor with a Reactor Chamber and load it with at least one Uranium or MOX Fuel Rod to create the neutron flux.

  3. 3

Place the Lithium Fuel Rod next to Uranium or MOX

Insert the Lithium Fuel Rod into a slot adjacent to a Uranium or MOX Fuel Rod so the neutrons reach it while the reactor runs.

  4. 4

Let the reactor irradiate the rod

While the reactor operates, the neutron radiation converts the Lithium Fuel Rod into a finished Tritium Fuel Rod; the exact duration is not fixed by the wiki.

  5. 5

Check the finished Tritium Fuel Rod in game

The Tritium Fuel Rod is a Reactor Component, and the wiki documents no further recipe or machine that consumes it, so verify its behaviour in your own reactor setup.

Important

Tritium exists in IndustrialCraft 2 only through irradiation of lithium, and the Lithium Fuel Rod input can not currently be crafted — plan the breeding run around the uranium or MOX fuel that supplies the neutrons.

Frequently asked questions

Can Tritium be crafted on a crafting table in IndustrialCraft 2?

No. Tritium appears only as a Tritium Fuel Rod converted from a Lithium Fuel Rod by neutron irradiation inside a running Nuclear Reactor, never on a crafting grid.

What is Tritium used for in IndustrialCraft 2?

The official IC2 wiki lists the Tritium Fuel Rod as a Reactor Component and documents no machine or recipe that consumes it; fusion reactors burning tritium with deuterium belong to other mods, not IndustrialCraft 2.

How long does it take to make Tritium?

The wiki does not fix a duration; the conversion happens while the reactor runs with the Lithium Fuel Rod placed next to a Uranium or MOX Fuel Rod.

Is Tritium found naturally in IndustrialCraft 2?

No. Tritium does not generate in any biome or ore; the only documented source is a Lithium Fuel Rod irradiated inside a Nuclear Reactor.

Does Tritium explode or melt down the reactor?

The wiki does not document the Tritium Fuel Rod as a heat source; the reactor heat it documents comes from the Uranium or MOX Fuel Rods that provide the neutron flux.

What does Tritium need alongside it in the reactor?

A Lithium Fuel Rod converts only when placed next to a Uranium or MOX Fuel Rod inside the same reactor chamber, because the conversion needs the neutron radiation those rods emit.
