Description

Refined Iron is a refined metal in IndustrialCraft 2, made by smelting a regular Iron Ingot or Iron Dust in a furnace. It is the backbone crafting material of the mod's early tech tree: eight Refined Iron arranged in a ring craft a Machine Block, the shared base used to build the Generator, Iron Furnace, Macerator, and most other IC2 machines. Refined Iron also goes into machine casings, cable shielding, and tool parts, so you smelt it in bulk once electricity and ore processing come online. Because it is made straight from iron, Refined Iron is fully renewable and easy to mass-produce with a row of furnaces or an Electric Furnace. In later IndustrialCraft 2 Experimental versions the separate Refined Iron item was merged back into the vanilla Iron Ingot, so which form your recipes use depends on the IC2 version in your modpack.

How to get and use Refined Iron in IndustrialCraft 2

    Smelt iron

    Place Iron Ingots or Iron Dust in a furnace; each item smelts into one Refined Iron.

    Scale up production

    Switch to an Iron Furnace or Electric Furnace to smelt full stacks quickly once you have power.

    Craft a Machine Block

    Fill the outer ring of the crafting grid with 8 Refined Iron, leaving the center empty, to make a Machine Block.

    Build IC2 machines

    Combine the Machine Block with parts like a furnace or RE Battery to craft Generators, Macerators, and other machines.

Version note

In newer IndustrialCraft 2 Experimental builds, Refined Iron was merged into the vanilla Iron Ingot, so recipes there call for Iron Ingots instead.
