Description

Overclocker is an upgrade item from Industrial Craft 2 that makes machines finish their work faster. An Overclocker fits into one of the four right-most upgrade slots in a machine's interface, and each module reduces operating time to 70% of the previous value while drawing 60% more power. The stacking is exponential: two Overclockers complete a job in 49% of the original time at 204% speed, for 256% of the original power. The basic recipe fills the top row of a crafting grid with three Heat Storage and the middle row with Copper Cable, a Circuit, and another Copper Cable, leaving the bottom row empty; the grid yields 2 Overclockers. Swapping the three Heat Storage for Tri Heat Storage yields 6 Overclockers, and Hex Heat Storage yields 12.

Eight Overclockers push a machine past 17 times normal speed, but the energy bill multiplies to 43 times the original. In a Macerator the practical ceiling sits near 13 modules, where the per-tick demand outgrows the machine's internal storage and Energy Storage upgrades become mandatory. Several unmodified machines make better use of a limited power supply; a stack of Overclockers saves space and wiring when energy is plentiful or compact construction matters.

Guide

How to craft and use Overclocker in Industrial Craft 2

  1. 1

    Craft the base recipe

Place three Heat Storage across the top row of a crafting grid, arrange Copper Cable, a Circuit, and another Copper Cable across the middle row, and leave the bottom row empty — the recipe yields 2 Overclockers.

  2. 2

    Scale the batch up

Swap the three Heat Storage for Tri Heat Storage to craft 6 Overclockers at once, or for Hex Heat Storage to craft 12; the middle row with the cables and the Circuit stays the same.

  3. 3

    Insert the module

Open the machine's interface and drop an Overclocker into one of the four right-most upgrade slots; each inserted module cuts operating time to 70% of the previous value.

  4. 4

    Scale speed against power

Add modules one at a time and watch the EU/t draw: eight Overclockers run a machine at over 17 times normal speed but multiply the energy use to 43 times.

  5. 5

    Restart a stalled machine

A Macerator that stops near 13 Overclockers has outgrown its internal storage; add Energy Storage upgrades to bring the machine back to work.

Divide modules between machines

Spreading Overclockers evenly over several machines makes better use of a limited energy supply than loading every module into a single machine.

Frequently asked questions

How much extra energy does each Overclocker cost per operation?

Each Overclocker multiplies the EU per operation by about 1.12 (0.7 × 1.6 = 112%), so eight modules raise the energy per operation to 248% of the original.

How many Overclockers deliver maximum speed?

A Macerator or an Extractor peaks at 28 Overclockers and a Recycler at 23; those counts also call for Transformer upgrades and Energy Storage upgrades.

Can a single BatBox power an overclocked Macerator?

A Macerator with five Overclockers draws 21 EU/t and finishes each grind in 2.5 seconds instead of 15 — exactly what a single BatBox can supply.
