Description

MFSU is the largest energy storage block in Industrial Craft 2: the internal battery holds 40 million EU and transfers up to 2,048 EU per tick at power tier 4. The storage ladder reads BatBox (40,000 EU, 32 EU per tick), CESU (300,000 EU, 128), MFE (4,000,000 EU, 512) and MFSU (40,000,000 EU, 2,048) — ten times the charge of an MFE. When placed, the MFSU sends power out through the face marked with a dot — the face aimed at the player — while the other five faces accept incoming cable. Any single input packet above 2,048 EU per tick makes the MFSU explode, so a transformer belongs in front of the block on high-voltage lines. A wrenched-out MFSU keeps only 80% of the stored EU, and even the crafting components hold more charge together (64 million EU).

The MFSU GUI doubles as a charging dock: the top slot charges a held battery or Lapotron Crystal from the internal storage, the bottom slot drains charged items back into the battery, and four armour slots recharge equipped armour without opening the inventory. A button in the GUI corner cycles seven redstone modes, from silent storage to 'do not output energy'. Players who already run an MFE can right-click the placed MFE with an MFSU Upgrade Kit: the MFE converts on the spot and the stored EU carries over, dodging the 80% relocation loss. One MFSU also serves as an ingredient in the Chargepad recipe. For a growing power grid, the MFSU is the buffer that keeps machines fed through demand spikes.

Guide

How to install and run an MFSU in Industrial Craft 2

  1. 1

    Craft or upgrade

Build the MFSU with the recipe shown above, or right-click a placed MFE with an MFSU Upgrade Kit — the MFE converts into an MFSU and keeps its stored EU.

  2. 2

    Aim the output dot

Place the MFSU so the dotted face points toward the machines you want to feed; every other face accepts input cable. Right-click a face with a wrench to turn the output.

  3. 3

    Keep packets under the limit

Feed the MFSU through any side face while keeping every packet at or below 2,048 EU per tick; wire a transformer into high-voltage lines so the MFSU does not explode.

  4. 4

Use the GUI as a charging dock

Open the MFSU, charge a battery or Lapotron Crystal in the top slot, drop spent items in the bottom slot to refill the MFSU, and let the four armour slots recharge equipped armour.

  5. 5

    Pick a redstone mode

Cycle the button in the GUI corner: 'nothing' leaves the MFSU storing silently, 'emit if full' signals a charged bank, and 'do not output energy' isolates the MFSU for maintenance.

Moving a full MFSU costs 20%

A wrenched-out MFSU retains only 80% of the stored EU, so drain the charge into batteries or an adjacent MFE before relocating a filled block.

Frequently asked questions

How much EU does an MFSU hold?

An MFSU holds 40 million EU — ten times the 4 million EU of an MFE and a thousand times the 40,000 EU of a BatBox. No storage block in Industrial Craft 2 banks more.

What power tier is the MFSU?

The MFSU runs at power tier 4 and moves up to 2,048 EU per tick in both directions, the highest rating among the four EU storage blocks.

Can the MFSU charge armour and tools directly?

The MFSU GUI carries four armour slots that recharge equipped armour without opening the inventory, a top slot that charges items such as a Lapotron Crystal, and a bottom slot that drains charged items back into the MFSU.

Is the MFSU Upgrade Kit cheaper than a new craft?

The MFSU Upgrade Kit converts a placed MFE into an MFSU on right-click and the stored EU carries over, which avoids both the full recipe cost and the 20% charge loss of wrenching a storage block out.

Why did my MFSU explode?

A single input packet above 2,048 EU per tick detonates the MFSU — the tier-4 limit. Insert a transformer between the high-voltage source and the MFSU, or step the packet size down at the generator.
