Description

Luminator is the electric light source of Industrial Craft 2: a flat glass-faced panel that starts glowing as soon as current arrives. One crafting operation spends two Iron, one Copper Cable, one Tin Cable and five Glass, and returns eight Luminators. The shape of a Luminator follows the surface — a small square on the ceiling, a rectangle on a wall, a large square on the floor or when connected to a cable. A stack holds 64 Luminators, enough to light a workshop corridor from a single craft.

A Luminator consumes 0.25 EU/t and carries an internal buffer of 10,000 EU, which keeps a Luminator lit for about two in-game days without active supply. Power arrives only through a connected cable: a Luminator pressed against the output face of a BatBox or an LV Transformer draws nothing. The voltage ceiling is strict — everything above 32 EU/t makes a Luminator explode, so Low Voltage from a BatBox or an LV Transformer in step-down mode is the correct feed. Beyond lighting, Luminators work as crafting ingredients for the Nightvision Goggles and the Scanner.

Guide

How to craft and power a Luminator in Minecraft

  1. 1

    Craft eight Luminators

Place two Iron in the top corners of the 3×3 grid with one Copper Cable between them, lay one Glass, one Tin Cable and one Glass across the middle row, fill the bottom row with three Glass, and collect eight Luminators from the output slot.

  2. 2

    Choose a placement surface

Attach a Luminator to a ceiling for a small square, to a wall for a rectangle, or to a floor or a cable for a large square.

  3. 3

    Run a power cable

Connect any IC2 cable to the Luminator, because a Luminator touching the output face of a BatBox or an LV Transformer directly draws no power.

  4. 4

    Keep the voltage low

Feed each Luminator with Low Voltage only: input above 32 EU/t makes a Luminator explode.

Buffer tip

A fully charged Luminator holds 10,000 EU and stays lit for about two in-game days, so a short power outage does not darken the base.

Frequently asked questions

How much energy does a Luminator consume?

A Luminator draws 0.25 EU/t while lit. The internal storage of 10,000 EU covers about two in-game days of light.

What happens above 32 EU/t?

A Luminator explodes. Low Voltage from a BatBox or an LV Transformer in step-down mode is the safe range.

Why does a Luminator stay dark next to a BatBox?

Luminators draw power only from cables. A Luminator pressed against the output face of a BatBox or an LV Transformer receives nothing, so connect the Luminator to a cable instead.

How many Luminators does one craft give?

One crafting operation turns two Iron, one Copper Cable, one Tin Cable and five Glass into eight Luminators.

Which items use Luminators as ingredients?

Nightvision Goggles and Scanner both list Luminators among their crafting ingredients.
