Description

The Cutter is a hand tool from Industrial Craft 2 that chops the Rubber insulation off any cable and turns metal plates into cables on the crafting table. A left-click on a cable removes the insulation: the bare cable drops to the ground and the Rubber drops beside it as a separate item. A right-click on a bare cable wraps new insulation around the cable, spending Rubber from the player's inventory. A new Cutter is assembled from three Iron Plates in the top corners and center of the 3x3 grid plus two Iron Ingots in the bottom corners, and a Cutter slowly wears down with use.

In crafting, the Cutter converts one metal plate into cable: a Tin Plate yields three Tin Cable, a Copper Plate yields two Copper Cable, and a Gold Plate yields four Gold Cable. Stripping insulation returns both the bare cable and the Rubber as items, so the Cutter doubles as a recycling tool: an old cable run can be stripped, the Rubber collected, and the same cable re-insulated elsewhere with a right-click. The wear on a Cutter builds with every use, which is worth remembering before re-wiring a whole base.

Guide

How to Craft and Use the Cutter in Minecraft

  1. 1

    Craft the Cutter

Place three Iron Plates into the top corners and the center of a crafting table's 3x3 grid, place two Iron Ingots into the bottom corners, and take the finished Cutter from the output slot.

  2. 2

    Cut plates into cable

Combine one metal plate with the Cutter on the crafting table: a Tin Plate produces three Tin Cable, a Copper Plate two Copper Cable, and a Gold Plate four Gold Cable.

  3. 3

    Strip insulation from a cable

Left-click an insulated cable in the world while holding the Cutter: the insulation is chopped off, and the bare cable and the Rubber drop to the ground as items.

  4. 4

    Re-insulate a bare cable

Right-click a bare cable while carrying Rubber in the inventory: the Cutter spends Rubber and wraps fresh insulation around the cable.

Carry a spare Cutter

A Cutter degrades with use, and a long wiring session can end mid-job; a second Cutter in the inventory keeps plate cutting going.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Cutter work on every Industrial Craft 2 cable?

Yes. The Cutter chops insulation off any sort of Industrial Craft 2 cable, and a left-click drops the bare cable and its Rubber as separate items.

Is the Cutter a block or an item?

The Cutter is a tool item that lives in the inventory and works by clicking cables in the world, in the same way as other Industrial Craft 2 hand tools.

Which mod adds the Cutter?

Industrial Craft 2 adds the Cutter in its Experimental branch, and lists Cutter under the wiring category.

How do I recover Rubber from cables I no longer need?

Left-click the old cable line with the Cutter: the Rubber drops as an item next to the bare cable and can insulate the next cable run.
