Description

Coke Kiln is a multiblock structure from Industrial Craft 2 that bakes coal into Coal Coke and Creosote Oil. One piece of coal converts in about two minutes and leaves one Coal Coke plus 500 mB of Creosote Oil. Only plain coal qualifies for processing — the Coke Kiln rejects charcoal and coal blocks. The finished Coke Kiln fills a 3×3 footprint over three layers with 26 blocks: 23 Refractory Bricks around a bottom grate, the Coke Kiln block set into the middle layer, and a hatch on top, with the center of the middle layer left empty.
Coal Coke pays back the effort: one piece burns twice as long as coal and delivers 8000 EU in a Generator, while the 500 mB of Creosote Oil from every cycle adds 1500 EU in a Semifluid Generator. Crafting the Coke Kiln block takes one Refractory Bricks block plus one Iron Plate, and the whole structure consumes 26 Refractory Bricks — 104 Clay and 104 Brick plus water in the grid centers. Coal enters through the top hatch, Coal Coke leaves from the side, and creosote oil drains from the bottom, so hoppers and pumps keep the Coke Kiln running without manual emptying.

Guide

How to Craft and Use the Coke Kiln in Industrial Craft 2

  1. 1

    Craft 26 Refractory Bricks

Arrange four Clay and four Brick around one water source on a crafting table — a single bucket in the middle works and returns to your inventory after crafting. Repeat the recipe until 26 Refractory Bricks are made from 104 Clay and 104 Brick.

  2. 2

Craft the kiln, the grate and the hatch

Combine one Refractory Bricks block with one Iron Plate to craft the Coke Kiln block. The grate and the hatch follow the same pattern: one Refractory Bricks block plus one iron part each.

  3. 3

    Build the 3×3×3 structure

Place the grate in the bottom center and surround it with eight Refractory Bricks. Build the middle layer with the Coke Kiln block on the middle of one side, seven Refractory Bricks around it, and an empty center. Cap the top with the hatch in the middle surrounded by the last eight Refractory Bricks, then use a wrench to turn the grate downward and the hatch upward.

  4. 4

Load coal through the top hatch

Insert plain coal by hand or with hoppers. Each piece of coal needs about two minutes to convert, and charcoal or coal blocks are never accepted.

  5. 5

Collect Coal Coke and creosote oil

Pick up Coal Coke from the side of the Coke Kiln block and drain creosote oil from the bottom grate with pipes or a pump. Neither output ejects on its own, so plan one helper machine for each side.

One Semifluid Generator serves several kilns

Coke Kilns work slowly enough for one Semifluid Generator to burn the creosote oil of several structures at 1500 EU per 500 mB.

Frequently asked questions

What does the Coke Kiln produce from one coal?

One piece of coal turns into one Coal Coke plus 500 mB of Creosote Oil after about two minutes inside the structure.

Can charcoal or coal blocks go into the Coke Kiln?

No. The Coke Kiln accepts only plain coal; charcoal and coal blocks do not work in the structure.

How much energy does Coal Coke generate?

One Coal Coke produces 8000 EU in a Generator and burns twice as long as coal. The creosote oil byproduct adds another 1500 EU per 500 mB in a Semifluid Generator.

How do you craft the Coke Kiln block?

Combine one Refractory Bricks block with one Iron Plate on a crafting table. The grate and the hatch take one Refractory Bricks block plus one iron part each.

How many Refractory Bricks does the full build need?

The complete structure uses 26 Refractory Bricks: three go into crafting the kiln, the grate and the hatch, and 23 form the walls. Crafting all 26 consumes 104 Clay, 104 Brick and water.
