Coal Cell is an IndustrialCraft 2 Experimental intermediate item used in the coal-based fuel production chain in Minecraft 1.12.2. It is the hydrated coal cell variant (often labeled H. Coal Cell) created by combining Hydrated Coal Dust with empty cells in a Canning Machine. The cell holds the dust in a portable container so that it can be processed further inside an Extractor, which converts it into a Coalfuel Cell. Coalfuel Cells, once produced, are loaded into a Fuel Can with the Canning Machine and burned in a Generator or Semifluid Generator for EU. Because IC2 Experimental has reworked the coal fuel chain several times over its lifetime, exact recipes can vary by build, but the Coal Cell consistently sits between raw coal processing and the final fuel product. In a 1.12.2 industrial base, Coal Cells are a way to convert otherwise low-tier coal byproducts into a high-energy fuel that scales much better than burning coal directly in a basic generator. Keep a small Coal Cell buffer in your fuel automation line so the Extractor never starves while empty cells return from the burn cycle.
