How to use Coal Cell in IndustrialCraft 2
-
1
Prepare hydrated coal dust
Macerate coal into coal dust, then process it through the relevant IC2 recipe to obtain hydrated coal dust as the input material.
-
2
Fill empty cells in the Canning Machine
Place empty cells in the input slot and hydrated coal dust in the secondary slot of the Canning Machine to produce Coal Cells (H. Coal Cells).
-
3
Extract into Coalfuel Cells
Move the Coal Cells into a powered Extractor; each cell is converted into a Coalfuel Cell which holds far more EU than raw coal.
-
4
Fill a Fuel Can
Use the Canning Machine again to load six Coalfuel Cells into an Empty Fuel Can ready for the generator.
-
5
Burn for EU
Insert the full Fuel Can into a Generator or Semifluid Generator to convert the stored coalfuel into electrical energy for your base.
The exact coal cell chain has been reworked across IC2 Experimental builds for 1.12.2. Always check the recipe inside JEI on your installed version before planning automation.

Frequently asked questions
What is a Coal Cell in IC2 Experimental?
It is the hydrated coal cell, an intermediate IC2 item that holds hydrated coal dust inside a reusable cell for further processing in an Extractor.
How do I craft a Coal Cell?
Put empty cells together with hydrated coal dust into a Canning Machine. The machine packs the dust into cells and outputs Coal Cells (H. Coal Cells).
What is the Coal Cell used for?
It is processed in an Extractor to make Coalfuel Cells, which are then loaded into Fuel Cans and burned in a Generator or Semifluid Generator for EU.
Is the Coal Cell still part of IC2 Experimental 1.12.2?
The coal fuel chain has been reworked several times. On many 1.12.2 builds it still exists, but the exact recipe can shift between versions, so check JEI.
