Carbon Plate
Carbon Plate is an Industrial Craft 2 crafting sheet made by smelting or compressing Carbon Mesh, used for Composite and Nano armor.
Description
Carbon Plate is a core ingredient in Industrial Craft 2 armor crafting, supplying the lightweight outer layer of the Composite Vest, Composite Boots and other reinforced pieces, and Carbon Plate also feeds into the higher-tier Nano Armor recipes alongside Advanced Alloy. Carbon Plate gives IC2 builders a renewable, fully craftable alternative to mob-drop or ore-based protection, so Carbon Plate is most useful when scaling armor production through automated Compressor lines and a steady Coal Dust supply for the upstream Carbon Mesh step.
Guide
How to craft Carbon Plate in Minecraft Industrial Craft 2
-
1
Prepare Coal Dust
Grind Coal in an IC2 Macerator to obtain Coal Dust, the base material for Carbon Fibre.
-
2
Extract Carbon Fibre
Place Coal Dust into an IC2 Extractor to convert it into Raw Carbon Fibre units.
-
3
Craft Carbon Mesh
Combine eight Raw Carbon Fibre on a Crafting Table to produce one Carbon Mesh sheet.
-
4
Smelt or compress into Carbon Plate
Smelt Carbon Mesh in a Furnace, or run it through an IC2 Compressor, to obtain one Carbon Plate per Carbon Mesh.
-
5
Stockpile for armor
Store Carbon Plate in a chest near your crafting setup so Composite Vest and Nano Armor recipes are quick to assemble.
The Compressor route is more EU-efficient at scale than smelting, especially when paired with a solar or geothermal generator array.

Frequently asked questions
What mod adds Carbon Plate to Minecraft?
Carbon Plate is added by the Industrial Craft 2 mod for Minecraft Java Edition, supported in versions 1.7.10 and 1.12.2. Carbon Plate does not exist in vanilla Minecraft or Bedrock Edition.
How do you make Carbon Plate?
Carbon Plate is produced by smelting one Carbon Mesh in a Furnace, or by compressing one Carbon Mesh in an IC2 Compressor. Both methods give one Carbon Plate per input.
What is Carbon Plate used for?
Carbon Plate is the main ingredient for the Composite Vest and other Composite armor pieces, and Carbon Plate also feeds the higher-tier Nano Armor recipes alongside Advanced Alloy.
Is the Compressor or Furnace better for Carbon Plate?
The IC2 Compressor is more energy-efficient than the Furnace for mass production of Carbon Plate, while the Furnace is simpler and works without an EU power network.
Can Carbon Plate be stacked?
Carbon Plate stacks up to 64 per inventory slot, so it is convenient to store in chests for long armor crafting runs in Industrial Craft 2.
