Description

Honeycomb is an item collected by using shears on a bee nest or beehive once its honey_level reaches 5, the fully ripe stage shown by honey dripping from the front face. Each harvest with shears yields three Honeycomb, and placing a lit campfire within five blocks below the nest keeps the bees calm so they will not swarm the player. Honeycomb was introduced in the Buzzy Bees update — Java Edition 1.15 and Bedrock Edition 1.14 — and stacks up to 64 per inventory slot.

Honeycomb has three main uses in Minecraft. Four Honeycomb arranged in a 2x2 grid craft one honeycomb block, a warm decorative block with a waxy texture. Combining Honeycomb with any copper block or copper item produces the waxed variant, which permanently stops oxidation and locks the current color. One Honeycomb plus one string crafts a candle, a light source that can be placed on cakes. Because waxing is the only reliable way to preserve bright, un-oxidized copper, Honeycomb is essential for anyone building with copper roofs, trims, or lightning rods.

How to get and use Honeycomb in Minecraft

  1. 1

Wait for the hive to fill

Let bees pollinate flowers and return to the bee nest or beehive until honey drips from the front and honey_level reaches 5.

  2. 2

    Place a campfire below

Set a lit campfire one to five blocks under the nest so harvesting does not anger the bees and trigger a swarm.

  3. 3

    Shear the nest

Use shears on the full nest or hive to collect three Honeycomb without destroying the block.

  4. 4

    Wax your copper

Combine Honeycomb with any copper block or item in the crafting grid to create the waxed variant and stop oxidation.

Bedrock difference

In Bedrock Edition, dispensers can apply Honeycomb to copper automatically, and shearing without a campfire still angers nearby bees just like in Java Edition.

Frequently asked questions

How do you get Honeycomb in Minecraft?

Use shears on a bee nest or beehive when its honey_level is 5, shown by dripping honey. Each shear gives three Honeycomb.

What is Honeycomb used for?

Honeycomb waxes copper to prevent oxidation, crafts candles with string, and makes decorative honeycomb blocks from four pieces.

Does harvesting Honeycomb anger bees?

Yes, unless a lit campfire is placed within five blocks below the nest, which calms the bees so they do not attack.

What version added Honeycomb?

Honeycomb arrived in the Buzzy Bees update: Java Edition 1.15 and Bedrock Edition 1.14.

Can you remove wax from copper?

Yes, using an axe on waxed copper removes the wax and lets the block oxidize again, but the Honeycomb itself is consumed when waxing.
