Gray Glazed Terracotta is the gray variant of the sixteen dye-color glazed terracotta blocks, made by smelting Gray Terracotta in a furnace — one smelt yields one glazed block and 0.1 experience. Minecraft introduced glazed terracotta in Java Edition 1.12 and in Bedrock Edition 1.1.0, yet no structure generates the gray color: villages, ocean ruins and trial chambers spawn white, orange, yellow, purple, red and other glazed terracotta colors, never gray. Mining Gray Glazed Terracotta requires any pickaxe, wooden or better; a bare hand or any non-pickaxe tool drops nothing. Gray Glazed Terracotta has hardness 1.4, blast resistance 1.4 (how well the block withstands creeper and TNT explosions), stacks to 64, cannot catch fire and survives contact with lava. Pistons push Gray Glazed Terracotta normally, sticky pistons cannot pull Gray Glazed Terracotta back, and slime blocks and honey blocks never stick to the glazed surface.

Gray Glazed Terracotta is a pattern block for gray-toned builds: the texture of each placed tile rotates with the direction the player faces while placing, and a 2×2 or larger field of same-oriented tiles merges into a single image. Terracotta from badlands biomes or from smelted Clay starts the production chain: eight Terracotta plus one Gray Dye craft eight Gray Terracotta, and each Gray Terracotta smelts into one Gray Glazed Terracotta. Mason villagers sell glazed terracotta in every color, which makes Gray Glazed Terracotta a renewable resource (a player can restock tiles endlessly through trading). Builders choose Gray Glazed Terracotta for floors and murals where a neutral gray carries the base tone while aligned tiles supply the ornament.
