Description

Gray Terracotta is the gray-dyed variant of terracotta, and one crafting recipe yields eight blocks: arrange eight terracotta blocks around a single gray dye in the middle of a 3×3 crafting grid. The plain terracotta base comes from smelting clay in a furnace or from mining badlands biomes, where terracotta generates in abundance. A pickaxe is required — without a pickaxe, Gray Terracotta drops nothing — and a wooden pickaxe already meets the minimum tool tier. All 16 dye colors, Gray Terracotta included, use the same eight-terracotta-plus-one-dye recipe shape.

Gray Terracotta carries stone-family defensive numbers: hardness 1.25 and blast resistance 4.2, with a stack size of 64. In a furnace, one Gray Terracotta block smelts into one gray glazed terracotta block and grants 0.1 experience per smelt. Because a single recipe outputs eight blocks, large Gray Terracotta floors and walls cost only a few gray dyes worth of crafting.

How to Get Gray Terracotta in Minecraft

    Place clay in a furnace to smelt each clay block into one terracotta block; each smelt grants 0.35 experience.

    Craft one gray dye

    Combine one black dye with one white dye on the crafting table to make two gray dyes.

    Put the gray dye in the center of the 3×3 grid and terracotta in the remaining eight slots; crafting outputs eight Gray Terracotta blocks.

Dyeing is permanent

No recipe can change or remove the gray color after crafting, so dye only as much terracotta as the current build needs.
