Description

The Friend Pottery Sherd is one of the decorative archeology items added with the Trail Ruins update. Players obtain it by brushing suspicious gravel found inside Trail Ruins structures, which generate in the overworld near old buried pathways. The motif on the sherd shows two figures standing close together, one with an arm around the other, commonly read as a depiction of friendship or companionship.

Like all sherds, this fragment cannot be crafted — brushing is the only source. Its main use is in the Decorated Pot recipe: four sherds or bricks are arranged in a plus shape around an empty center slot on the crafting grid. The face of the finished pot that shows a given design corresponds to the slot where that sherd was placed, so builders can plan which side faces the viewer. A Decorated Pot has a single-stack inventory slot and accepts hoppers above and below for automation. When broken with bare hands the pot drops as a whole item; broken with any tool, it shatters back into its individual sherds, allowing the Friend sherd to be recovered and reused.

How to Get

How to find and use Friend Pottery Sherd in Minecraft

  1. 1

    Craft a Brush

Craft a Brush from 1 Feather (top), 1 Copper Ingot (middle), and 1 Stick (bottom) in a crafting table. The Brush is the only tool that reveals items from Suspicious Gravel.

  2. 2

    Find Trail Ruins

Trail Ruins generate underground in old growth taiga, snowy taiga, taiga, and jungle biomes. Look for mossy cobblestone and terracotta structures partially buried in the ground.

  3. 3

    Brush Suspicious Gravel

Hold the Brush and right-click (use) on Suspicious Gravel blocks inside Trail Ruins. Each block drops one random item — Friend Pottery Sherd is among the possible rewards.

  4. 4

    Craft a Decorated Pot

Place 4 sherds or bricks in a "+" cross pattern in a 3×3 crafting grid (leave the center empty). The position of Friend Pottery Sherd determines which side of the pot displays the friend motif.

  5. 5

    Orient the Decorated Pot

When placing the Decorated Pot in the world, face the direction where you want the friend motif to show. The side facing you during placement is the side that displays your chosen sherd's design.

Breaking a Decorated Pot

Breaking a Decorated Pot with your bare hand drops the pot intact. Breaking it with any tool causes it to shatter into its component sherds, which you can reuse in a new pot recipe.
