Description

The Electric Shovel is the earth-side member of Ala Industrial's line of EU-powered hand tools, joining the Electric Drill for stone and the Electric Chainsaw for wood. While it holds at least 20 EU, the Electric Shovel digs dirt, sand, gravel, clay, snow, and soul sand at mining speed 9.0 — faster than a diamond shovel's 8.0 — and spends 20 EU per block broken, so the 10,000 EU buffer covers roughly 500 blocks on one charge. The tool runs on EU instead of durability: the Electric Shovel never breaks, the gold bar under its icon shows the EU charge rather than wear, and instantly-broken blocks such as snow layers and grass cost nothing at all.

A flat Electric Shovel is still a working tool: below 20 EU it digs at hand speed while keeping its mining level and drops, and its right-click actions stay free — it turns grass into dirt paths and extinguishes campfires exactly like a vanilla shovel. Recharging happens in the Battery Box charge slot or from a worn Energy Pack at up to 32 EU/t (the LV ceiling), which fills the buffer in about 16 seconds, and third-party energy mods charge it too at a rate of 1 EU per 1 FE. The Electric Shovel hits for 2.5 damage like a diamond shovel, attacking spends no EU, and an enchanting table accepts it as a shovel. The recipe wraps a diamond shovel in three iron ingots, two batteries, two copper coils, and one electronic circuit, and the batteries' charge carries over into the finished tool. The Electric Shovel works identically on Fabric and NeoForge for Minecraft 26.2 (Java Edition).

How to use the Electric Shovel in Minecraft

  1. 1

    Craft the Electric Shovel

Place three iron ingots across the top row of a crafting table, a diamond shovel in the center with a battery on each side, and two copper coils plus one electronic circuit along the bottom. The batteries' charge carries over into the finished tool.

  2. 2

    Charge it to 10,000 EU

Put the Electric Shovel in the Battery Box charge slot or wear a charged Energy Pack. Both refill the buffer at up to 32 EU/t, so a full charge takes about 16 seconds.

  3. 3

    Dig earth at speed 9.0

Mine dirt, sand, gravel, clay, snow, or soul sand. While charged, the Electric Shovel digs faster than a diamond shovel and pays 20 EU per block, and a full buffer covers about 500 blocks.

  4. 4

Use vanilla shovel actions for free

Right-click grass, dirt, podzol, or rooted dirt to lay a dirt path, or a lit campfire to put it out. These interactions never spend EU.

  5. 5

Keep working on a flat battery

Below 20 EU the Electric Shovel digs at hand speed with the same mining level and drops. Recharge it in the Battery Box to return to speed 9.0.

No durability, no repair

The Electric Shovel never breaks, so it has no repair recipe — maintenance simply means recharging EU, and in creative mode no EU is spent at all.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Electric Shovel faster than a diamond shovel?

Yes. At mining speed 9.0 against the diamond shovel's 8.0, it digs dirt, sand, and gravel faster while charged, spending 20 EU per block.

How do you charge the Electric Shovel?

Place it in the Battery Box charge slot or wear a charged Energy Pack. Both accept it automatically at up to 32 EU/t, filling the 10,000 EU buffer in about 16 seconds.

How many blocks does one charge dig?

About 500. The 10,000 EU buffer pays 20 EU per block, and instantly-broken blocks such as snow layers and grass cost nothing.

What happens when the Electric Shovel runs out of EU?

It keeps digging at hand speed with the same mining level and drops, and free right-click actions such as making dirt paths or dousing campfires keep working.

Does the Electric Shovel ever break?

No. It has no durability — the bar under the icon shows the EU charge. Enchantments like Unbreaking and Mending are harmless but useless on it.
