Description

The Electric Drill is the first powered hand tool in Ala Industrial: a rechargeable diamond-tier pickaxe that runs on EU instead of durability. While charged, the Electric Drill mines a touch faster than a diamond pickaxe (speed 8.5 versus 8.0) and spends 50 EU per block broken, with a full buffer of 10,000 EU giving about 200 blocks per charge. The Electric Drill never breaks — the bar under the icon shows EU charge, not wear. Crafted around a finished diamond pickaxe flanked by two batteries, an electronic circuit, and two copper coils on an iron body, the Electric Drill accepts the same enchantments as a diamond pickaxe (Efficiency, Fortune, Silk Touch, Unbreaking, Mending) at an enchanting table or anvil. When the buffer drops below 50 EU, the Electric Drill keeps its diamond mining level and identical drops but mines at hand speed and spends no EU, so it never becomes useless. The Electric Drill recharges in the Battery Box charge slot or from a worn Energy Pack at up to 32 EU/t (the LV tier ceiling), filling in about 16 seconds. A second tier, the Diamond-Tipped Electric Drill, raises mining speed to 10.0 and adds switchable Silk Touch on sneak + right-click.

How to use the Electric Drill in Minecraft

  1. 1

Craft the drill around a diamond pickaxe

Place a finished diamond pickaxe in the centre of a crafting grid, two batteries on its sides, an electronic circuit below it between two copper coils, and three iron ingots across the top. The diamond pickaxe sets the mining tier; the power parts gate the Electric Drill behind LV infrastructure.

  2. 2

    Charge it to 10,000 EU

Put the Electric Drill in the Battery Box charge slot or keep a charged Energy Pack equipped. The drill accepts up to 32 EU/t (the LV ceiling) and fills in about 16 seconds, so a full buffer is 10,000 EU.

  3. 3

Mine at diamond tier for 50 EU per block

With at least 50 EU, the Electric Drill mines everything a diamond pickaxe should at speed 8.5 — diamond ore, obsidian, even ancient debris — and drops match a diamond pickaxe. Each block broken spends 50 EU; instant-break blocks like grass and torches are free.

  4. 4

    Place torches from your inventory

Hold the Electric Drill with torches anywhere in your inventory and right-click a block to place a torch for 5 EU. The drill prefers an Enriched Uranium Torch and falls back to a normal torch; below 5 EU the torch is not placed and no charge is spent.

  5. 5

Recharge when it drops below 50 EU

Below 50 EU the Electric Drill keeps its diamond mining level and drops but mines at hand speed and spends no EU, so it never stops you. Top it back up in the Battery Box or from a worn Energy Pack and the 8.5 speed returns.

Upgrade: Diamond-Tipped Electric Drill

The second tier (alaindustrial:electric_drill_diamond_tip) raises mining speed to 10.0 and adds switchable Silk Touch on sneak + right-click. The buffer, 50 EU per block cost, and 32 EU/t intake are unchanged, and the drill's charge carries over into the upgrade.

Frequently asked questions

How much EU does the Electric Drill use per block?

The Electric Drill spends 50 EU per block broken at powered speed, and a full buffer of 10,000 EU mines about 200 blocks. Instant-break blocks like grass, torches, and flowers cost 0 EU, and in creative no EU is spent at all.

Does the Electric Drill break?

No. The Electric Drill has no durability and never breaks — the bar under the icon shows EU charge, not wear. When charge drops below 50 EU it keeps mining at hand speed with the same diamond tier and drops, spending no EU until you recharge.

How do you charge the Electric Drill?

Place it in the Battery Box charge slot or keep a charged Energy Pack equipped. The Electric Drill accepts up to 32 EU/t (the LV tier ceiling) and fills its 10,000 EU buffer in about 16 seconds. Other mods' chargers also work at 1 EU = 1 FE, but only for charging, not draining.

What is the Electric Drill's mining tier and speed?

The Electric Drill mines at diamond tier (it handles diamond ore, obsidian, and ancient debris) at speed 8.5 — a touch faster than a diamond pickaxe at 8.0. The Diamond-Tipped upgrade raises speed to 10.0 without changing the tier.

Can you enchant the Electric Drill?

Yes. The enchanting table and anvil treat the Electric Drill like a diamond pickaxe, so it accepts Efficiency, Fortune, Silk Touch, Unbreaking, and Mending. Unbreaking and Mending are harmless but useless on an unbreakable tool.

How do you craft the Electric Drill?

Place a finished diamond pickaxe in the centre of a crafting grid, two batteries on its sides, an electronic circuit below it between two copper coils, and three iron ingots across the top. The diamond pickaxe sets the mining tier, and all power components require LV infrastructure.
