How to craft and use a Diamond Pickaxe in Minecraft

Gather 3 diamonds and 2 sticks
Mine diamond ore with an iron or diamond pickaxe at around Y -59 and craft 2 sticks from any planks.

Craft the pickaxe
Place 3 diamonds across the top row of a crafting table and 2 sticks down the center column to make 1 Diamond Pickaxe.

Use the Diamond Pickaxe to break obsidian, ancient debris, and ores that iron and stone pickaxes cannot harvest.

Apply Efficiency V, Fortune III, and Unbreaking III at an enchanting table or anvil to boost speed, drops, and durability.

Upgrade to netherite
Combine the Diamond Pickaxe with 1 netherite ingot and a Netherite Upgrade template in a smithing table to get a Netherite Pickaxe.
Smithing-template upgrading was added in 1.20; in 1.16–1.19 the netherite upgrade needed only an ingot, with no template.
