Diamond-Tipped Electric Drill — Minecraft block

Diamond-Tipped Electric Drill

The Diamond-Tipped Electric Drill mines at speed 10.0 — beating a netherite pickaxe at 9.0 — and switches Silk Touch on the fly while running on 10,000 EU.

Description

The Diamond-Tipped Electric Drill is the second tier of the Electric Drill from the Ala Industrial mod for Minecraft 26.2 (Java Edition), working identically on Fabric and NeoForge and raising mining speed from 8.5 to 10.0 — ahead of a netherite pickaxe at 9.0. A 10,000 EU buffer covers about 200 broken blocks at 50 EU per block, and the bar under the icon shows EU charge rather than wear. Sneak + right-click flips the built-in Silk Touch: normal mode drops raw ore for the Macerator's ore doubling, while Silk Touch mode drops ore, glass, and leaves as the blocks themselves. The mining tier stays at diamond level, so the Diamond-Tipped Electric Drill buys speed without unlocking netherite-level blocks.

Crafting takes a workbench grid of 3 Diamond Dust across the top row, the base Electric Drill in the centre, 2 Invar Ingots on the sides, and 1 Silver Gear below the centre — an upgrade gated behind the Macerator and the Alloy Smelter. The base drill's EU charge carries over, so crafting from a full drill yields a fully charged upgrade. Charging happens in a Battery Box charge slot or from a worn Energy Pack at 32 EU/t — the LV low-voltage ceiling — with a full 10,000 EU taking roughly 16 seconds; chargers from other mods also work at 1 EU = 1 FE, insert-only. Enchanting tables treat the Diamond-Tipped Electric Drill like a diamond pickaxe, so Efficiency, Fortune, Silk Touch, Unbreaking, and Mending all apply, though Unbreaking and Mending do nothing on an unbreakable tool. A plain right-click places torches for 5 EU each — preferring the mod's Enriched Uranium Torch, which stays lit underwater — and in combat the Diamond-Tipped Electric Drill strikes at 6 damage without spending EU.

Guide

How to Craft and Use the Diamond-Tipped Electric Drill in Minecraft

  1. 1

    Gather the upgrade materials

Produce 3 Diamond Dust at the Macerator and 2 Invar Ingots at the Alloy Smelter — the two machines that gate this upgrade — plus 1 Silver Gear.

  2. 2

    Craft around the base drill

On a workbench, lay 3 Diamond Dust across the top row, place the base Electric Drill in the centre, flank the base drill with 2 Invar Ingots, and set 1 Silver Gear directly below; the finished Diamond-Tipped Electric Drill keeps the base drill's EU charge, so start from a full drill.

  3. 3

Charge at 32 EU per tick

Drop the Diamond-Tipped Electric Drill into a Battery Box charge slot or wear an Energy Pack; intake tops out at 32 EU per tick (the LV low-voltage ceiling), filling the 10,000 EU buffer in about 16 seconds.

  4. 4

    Toggle Silk Touch on demand

Sneak + right-click flips between normal drops (raw ore that feeds the Macerator's ore doubling) and Silk Touch drops (ore, glass, and leaves as the blocks themselves); the toggle is free and the active mode shows as a tooltip line.

  5. 5

Mine and watch the EU budget

Every broken block costs 50 EU — about 200 blocks per full charge — while instant-break blocks like grass and torches are free; below 50 EU the Diamond-Tipped Electric Drill slows to hand speed but keeps diamond-level mining and identical drops without spending EU.

Tip

The recipe book and JEI/REI auto-fill will not find a charged drill (a Minecraft limitation that also affects enchanted items), so place the grid by hand. On this tier sneak + right-click switches the Silk Touch mode, while a plain right-click still places torches for 5 EU.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Diamond-Tipped Electric Drill faster than a netherite pickaxe?

Yes — mining speed is 10.0 versus 9.0 for a netherite pickaxe, while the base Electric Drill sits at 8.5 and a diamond pickaxe at 8.0. The mining tier stays at diamond, so netherite-level blocks remain out of reach.

How do I turn Silk Touch on or off?

Sneak + right-click flips the drop mode for free, with a click sound and a hotbar message. Normal mode drops raw ore for the Macerator, while Silk Touch mode drops ore, glass, and leaves as the blocks themselves.

Does the base drill's charge carry over when upgrading?

Yes — the workbench transfers the base Electric Drill's EU buffer into the finished upgrade, so crafting with a full drill yields a fully charged Diamond-Tipped Electric Drill.

How many blocks does one full charge break?

The 10,000 EU buffer breaks about 200 blocks at 50 EU each. Instant-break blocks such as grass, torches, and flowers cost no energy.

What happens when the EU runs out?

Below 50 EU the Diamond-Tipped Electric Drill mines at hand speed, keeps the diamond mining level and identical drops, and spends no EU — a full recharge at a Battery Box or Energy Pack takes about 16 seconds at 32 EU per tick.

Do enchantments work on the Diamond-Tipped Electric Drill?

Enchanting tables and anvils treat the Diamond-Tipped Electric Drill like a diamond pickaxe: Efficiency, Fortune, Silk Touch, Unbreaking, and Mending all apply, though Unbreaking and Mending are useless without durability. A Silk Touch applied at an enchanting table is honestly switched off by the toggle.
