Diamond-Tipped Electric Chainsaw
The Diamond-Tipped Electric Chainsaw cuts wood and leaves at speed 10.5 on EU power, with a switchable Silk Touch mode for whole leaf blocks.
Description
Craft the Diamond-Tipped Electric Chainsaw from the base Electric Chainsaw, three Diamond Dust, two bronze ingots, and a Gold Gear — the charge stored in the input saw carries over into the finished tool. Refill it in the Battery Box charge slot, from a worn Energy Pack, or from third-party chargers at up to 32 EU per tick (the LV-tier ceiling, about 16 seconds for a full buffer). When the charge drops below 30 EU, the saw keeps cutting at hand speed with the same mining level and drops, and stops spending EU until recharged. Sneak + right-click flips the Silk Touch mode for leaves — mushroom blocks, bookshelves, and beehives also drop whole in this mode, while logs are never affected because wood always drops as itself.

How to use the Diamond-Tipped Electric Chainsaw in Minecraft
-
1
Craft the upgrade
Lay the recipe out by hand: base Electric Chainsaw in the centre, three Diamond Dust across the top, bronze ingots at the sides, and a Gold Gear below. The EU stored in the saw carries over into the result.
-
2
Charge the saw
Insert the Diamond-Tipped Electric Chainsaw into the Battery Box charge slot or wear an Energy Pack. Both refill up to 32 EU per tick, so a full 10,000 EU buffer takes about 16 seconds.
-
3
Fell the whole tree
Cut the trunk and the crown in one pass — leaves follow the same tool rule as wood, so the canopy falls as fast as the trunk at 30 EU per block.
-
4
Toggle Silk Touch for leaves
Sneak + right-click flips the drop mode. The enchantment glint and the Silk Touch I tooltip line confirm the current state; flip it back to keep collecting saplings.
The Silk Touch mode never changes log drops, and below 30 EU the saw still cuts at hand speed with full drops while spending nothing. Auto-fill in JEI/REI cannot find a charged saw — place it in the grid manually.

Frequently asked questions
How is the Diamond-Tipped Electric Chainsaw different from the Electric Chainsaw?
In exactly two things: cutting speed rises from 9.0 to 10.5, and a sneak + right-click toggle adds Silk Touch for leaves. The 10,000 EU buffer, the 30 EU per block cost, and the charging behavior are identical.
How do you turn on Silk Touch on the Diamond-Tipped Electric Chainsaw?
Sneak + right-click with the saw in hand. The item gains the enchantment glint and lists Silk Touch I in its tooltip; another sneak + right-click turns the mode off.
Does the Diamond-Tipped Electric Chainsaw break?
No. The tool has no durability and never breaks. The bar under the icon shows the EU charge, and recharging in a Battery Box or Energy Pack is the only maintenance it needs.
How many blocks does one full charge cut?
The buffer holds 10,000 EU and each cut block costs 30 EU, which is about 333 blocks of wood or leaves per full charge. Blocks that break instantly, such as saplings, cost nothing.
What happens when the Diamond-Tipped Electric Chainsaw runs out of EU?
It keeps cutting at hand speed (1.0) with the same mining level and drops, and it stops spending EU until recharged. The Efficiency enchantment does not apply at hand speed.
Does the Silk Touch mode change what logs drop?
No. Wood drops as itself with any tool in vanilla Minecraft, so the mode changes nothing on trunks. It does affect other axe-domain blocks — mushroom blocks, bookshelves, and beehives drop whole, and a beehive keeps its bees.
