Description
Ash has exactly one use: two Ash items combine shapelessly on any crafting table into one gray dye. The rest of the story is upkeep. The ash bin holds a single stack of 64, and the Recycler punishes neglect — from three quarters full the machine runs half again as slow, and a full bin stops the grinding entirely until the Ash is removed. A hopper placed under the Recycler empties the bin on its own, so a junk-grinding farm quietly builds up gray-dye stock with no manual shovelling.

Run the Recycler on junk
Feed a blade-fitted Recycler any waste: cobblestone, dirt, spare tools, planks. The LV machine grinds one item every 40 ticks (2 seconds) and draws 8 EU/t while working.

Wait for a full batch
Each ground item adds its mass to the batch. When the counter reaches 64 mass units, the Recycler casts a slag briquette and drops Ash into the ash bin: 4 pieces on iron blades, 3 on tempered, 2 on diamond.

Empty the ash bin
Take the Ash out by hand before the bin is three quarters full, or place a hopper under the Recycler to drain the bin automatically.

Craft gray dye
Combine two Ash items on any crafting table as a shapeless recipe; the output is one gray dye for building and decoration.
The ash bin slows the machine before it stops it: at three quarters full the Recycler already runs half again as slow. Upgrading from iron to diamond blades halves the ash flow from 4 pieces per batch to 2.
