Wooden Sword is the first weapon most players craft in Minecraft: two planks and a stick make a blade that deals 4 damage in Java Edition and 5 in Bedrock.
Description
Players rely on the Wooden Sword for the earliest fights against zombies, spiders, and skeletons before iron or diamond gear is available. The Wooden Sword accepts enchantments such as Sharpness, Knockback, Fire Aspect, and Looting through an enchanting table or anvil, and can even be burned as furnace fuel, smelting one item per sword. Because the Wooden Sword breaks after only 59 hits in Java Edition (60 in Bedrock), most survival players treat it as a disposable starter weapon and upgrade to a Stone Sword as soon as cobblestone is mined.

How to craft and use a Wooden Sword in Minecraft

Gather planks and a stick
Punch a tree for logs, craft the logs into planks, and turn two planks into sticks so you have at least two planks and one stick.

Open a crafting table
Place and right-click a crafting table to open the 3x3 grid, since the Wooden Sword does not fit the 2x2 inventory grid.

Arrange the recipe
Put one plank in the top-center slot, a second plank in the middle-center slot, and one stick in the bottom-center slot to make one Wooden Sword.

Equip and attack
Move the Wooden Sword to your hotbar and left-click mobs to deal 4 attack damage per fully charged hit in Java Edition, or 5 per hit in Bedrock Edition.
The Wooden Sword survives only 59 hits in Java Edition (60 in Bedrock) before breaking, so mine cobblestone early and upgrade to a Stone Sword for higher durability and damage.
