How to use a Bucket of Tadpole in Minecraft
-
1
Find a tadpole
Travel to a mangrove swamp and locate a tadpole swimming in the shallow water, or hatch one from frogspawn.
-
2
Scoop it up
Hold a water bucket and use (right-click) the tadpole to fill the bucket with the tadpole and its water.
-
3
Choose the target biome
Carry the Bucket of Tadpole to the biome whose temperature matches the frog you want: warm for orange, cold for green, anything else for temperate.
-
4
Release the tadpole
Use the bucket on water or the ground to empty it; the tadpole and water are placed and you keep an empty bucket.
-
5
Grow the frog
Wait about 20 minutes or feed the tadpole slimeballs; it matures into a frog matching the local biome temperature.
The frog colour is locked in by the biome where the tadpole grows up, not where it was caught — relocate it before it matures into a frog.

Frequently asked questions
How do you get a Bucket of Tadpole?
Use a filled water bucket on a tadpole in a mangrove swamp; it scoops the tadpole and its water into the bucket.
Can you craft a Bucket of Tadpole?
No. It cannot be crafted — the only way to obtain it is catching a tadpole with a water bucket.
What does a tadpole grow into?
A tadpole matures into a frog after about 20 minutes, and feeding it slimeballs speeds up the growth.
How is the frog colour decided?
The frog variant depends on the biome temperature where the tadpole grows up: warm biomes give orange frogs, snowy biomes give green frogs, and other biomes give temperate frogs.
What version added the Bucket of Tadpole?
It was added in Minecraft 1.19 "The Wild Update" for both Java and Bedrock Edition.
