Description

Mud is the defining surface of mangrove swamp biomes — flat brown stretches between mangrove roots and shallow water, where the world looks soaked through. The block can also be created anywhere by using a water bottle on a dirt block; pour the bottle and the dirt becomes a fresh patch of swamp wherever the player wants. Walking across this surface slows movement noticeably and pushes the player's feet slightly into the ground, creating a gentle sinking visual effect that other terrain lacks.

The block has two onward crafting paths. First, combining it with wheat in any crafting slot produces packed mud, which itself crafts into mud bricks for finished construction. Second, positioning the block above pointed dripstone with a water source creates clay over time — the only renewable way to obtain clay without searching swamps and beaches. Builders use it raw for boggy diorama scenes, swamp gardens, and as a contrasting dark patch beneath sand or grass paths to suggest the ground has soaked through.
