Description

Mud is a natural building block found across the floor of mangrove swamps and can also be made by using a water bottle on dirt, coarse dirt, or rooted dirt. One bottle converts one block and leaves an empty glass bottle, so players can produce Mud anywhere with renewable dirt and water. Mud is slightly shorter than a full block: entities sink about 2 pixels into its surface, but walking speed remains normal. Unlike soul sand, Mud does not slow players or mobs.

Mud combines with one wheat in any crafting grid to make one Packed Mud, the base material for Mud Bricks, Mud Brick Slabs, Mud Brick Stairs, and Mud Brick Walls. Mud placed above a block with pointed dripstone hanging underneath eventually turns into Clay, providing a renewable clay-production method. The dark, wet texture fits mangrove paths, riverbanks, farm edges, ruined villages, and terrain after rainfall. Mud also has no collision suffocation risk for most entities despite the shallow sinking effect, making Mud practical for detailed ground surfaces rather than traps.

How to turn Mud into renewable Clay in Minecraft

    Create or collect Mud

    Use water bottles on dirt, coarse dirt, or rooted dirt, or collect Mud directly from a mangrove swamp.

    Hang pointed dripstone

    Attach pointed dripstone to the underside of a solid block; the dripstone tip must point downward.

    Place Mud above the block

    Put Mud directly on top of the supporting block and wait until the Mud converts into Clay.

No water source required

The conversion uses moisture already stored in Mud. A cauldron and a separate water block are not required.
