Fuel Rod (MOX)
Fuel Rod (MOX) is a radioactive nuclear fuel item (emits radiation that damages unprotected players) that powers Industrial Craft 2 reactors with heat-boosted output.
Description
Fuel Rod (MOX) burns for exactly half a reactor cycle: 10,000 seconds. Inside a Nuclear Reactor the efficiency of Fuel Rod (MOX) climbs with heat, up to 5 times normal at 99.9% maximum heat, and sufficiently cooled MOX designs reach up to 35 times single-rod efficiency. A Pressure Vessel Reactor offers a simpler scale: normal efficiency below 50% heat, double efficiency above 50%, and optimized MOX designs exceed 40x efficiency.
Guide
How to Craft and Use a Fuel Rod (MOX) in Industrial Craft 2
-
1
Craft the MOX charge
Place three Plutonium across the middle row of the crafting grid and fill the top and bottom rows with six Uranium 238; the second registered recipe accepts six Uranium instead of the Uranium 238.
-
2
Pack the rod
Load a Fuel Rod (Empty) and the MOX charge into a Canning Machine to receive a finished Fuel Rod (MOX), the form reactors accept.
-
3
Suit up
Equip a full Hazmat Suit before touching the MOX charge or the finished rod, because MOX items are radioactive and hurt unprotected players.
-
4
Load the reactor
Insert Fuel Rod (MOX) into a Nuclear Reactor or a Pressure Vessel Reactor; the rod burns for 10,000 seconds, half of a full reactor cycle.
-
5
Tune the heat
Run the Nuclear Reactor up to 99.9% heat for up to 5x efficiency, or hold a Pressure Vessel Reactor above 50% heat for double output.
A Dual Fuel Rod (MOX) combines two MOX fuel rods with one Iron Plate. A Quad Fuel Rod (MOX) stacks four MOX fuel rods with four Iron Plates and two Copper Plates for denser reactor layouts.

Frequently asked questions
How do you craft a Fuel Rod (MOX) in Industrial Craft 2?
Six Uranium 238 and three Plutonium — Plutonium across the middle row — craft the MOX charge, and six Uranium works in the alternate registered recipe. A Canning Machine then packs MOX Nuclear Fuel into a Fuel Rod (Empty) to finish the rod.
Why does a Fuel Rod (MOX) poison the player?
Fuel Rod (MOX) is radioactive, and unprotected handling causes radiation poisoning. A full Hazmat Suit blocks the radiation.
How long does a Fuel Rod (MOX) last in a reactor?
Fuel Rod (MOX) burns for 10,000 seconds, exactly half of a full reactor cycle.
How hot should an EU reactor run with Fuel Rod (MOX)?
Fuel Rod (MOX) efficiency rises with reactor heat, up to 5 times normal at 99.9% maximum heat. Sufficiently cooled MOX designs reach up to 35 times single-rod efficiency.
How does Fuel Rod (MOX) work in a Pressure Vessel Reactor?
A Pressure Vessel Reactor pays normal efficiency below 50% heat and double efficiency above 50% heat. Optimized MOX designs exceed 40x efficiency.
