Wind-gliding wings found in End Ship item frames that let players soar across the sky, with optional speed boosts from firework rockets.
Description
Firing a firework rocket while gliding provides a brief speed burst, enabling long cross-continent flights. With enough rockets a player stays airborne indefinitely. Elytra degrade with use and are repaired with phantom membranes at an anvil, or combined with a second pair in a crafting table. The Mending enchantment automatically restores durability through experience orbs during flight. Unbreaking III greatly extends lifespan. Each End Ship contains only one pair, so players often explore multiple cities or trade for spares.

How to get and use Elytra in Minecraft

Reach an End City
Defeat the Ender Dragon, step through an End Gateway, and explore the outer End islands until you find an End City with an attached End Ship.

Take the Elytra
Board the End Ship, deal with the Shulker guarding it, and break the item frame holding the Elytra to collect the single pair.

Equip the wings
Open your inventory and place the Elytra in the chest armor slot, replacing any chestplate you were wearing.

Glide and boost
Jump from a high point and press jump again to start gliding, then hold a firework rocket and use it to gain speed and altitude.

Repair when worn
Combine the Elytra with phantom membranes on an anvil, or apply the Mending enchantment to restore durability from experience orbs.
Elytra have 432 durability and stop gliding with 1 point left, fluttering you safely downward instead of breaking. Pairing Unbreaking III with Mending keeps a set of Elytra flying almost indefinitely.
