Description
Elytra are found exclusively in End Ships — floating vessels attached to some End Cities on the outer End islands. Each ship contains one pair in an item frame, guarded by a Shulker. Equipped in the chest armor slot, they activate by pressing jump while falling, letting the player glide at roughly 30 m/s horizontally.
Firing a firework rocket while gliding provides a brief speed burst, enabling long cross-continent flights. With enough rockets a player stays airborne indefinitely. Elytra degrade with use and are repaired with phantom membranes at an anvil, or combined with a second pair in a crafting table. The Mending enchantment automatically restores durability through experience orbs during flight. Unbreaking III greatly extends lifespan. Each End Ship contains only one pair, so players often explore multiple cities or trade for spares.
