Firework Rocket
Firework Rocket boosts elytra flight and creates custom fireworks from paper, gunpowder, and optional stars.
Description
The item has two major roles. For travel, it turns elytra into the fastest practical movement system in survival, especially when stocked in shulker boxes. For decoration, stars control colour, shape, fade, trail, twinkle, and other effects. Crossbows can also fire loaded rockets as explosive projectiles, giving the recipe combat value beyond celebration.

How to craft and use a Firework Rocket in Minecraft
-
1
Craft a Firework Star (optional)
Open the crafting grid and combine 1 gunpowder with 1 or more dyes to make a basic Firework Star. Add a Fire Charge for a large ball explosion, a Gold Nugget for a star shape, a Feather for a burst, or a Mob Head for a creeper face. Mix in Glowstone Dust for a twinkle effect or a Diamond for a trail. Add a second dye last to set a fade colour.
-
2
Craft the Firework Rocket
Place 1 paper and 1–3 gunpowder in the crafting grid, along with any Firework Stars you made. The number of gunpowder units sets the flight duration: 1 gunpowder gives a short flight (~1 second), 3 gives a long flight (~3 seconds). Stars are optional — a rocket without any star produces no explosion.
-
3
Launch for decoration
Right-click the ground to launch the rocket. It flies upward and detonates with the explosion pattern defined by its stars. Dispensers can fire rockets automatically when powered by redstone, useful for automated firework displays.
-
4
Boost elytra flight
While gliding with elytra equipped, right-click with the rocket in hand to get a burst of speed. Higher flight duration (more gunpowder) extends the boost. Use rockets with no Firework Stars to avoid explosion damage to yourself mid-flight.
-
5
Load a crossbow
Combine a Crossbow with a Firework Rocket in your inventory to load it. Fire the loaded crossbow to launch the rocket as a projectile. Rockets with stars deal explosion damage on impact; the more stars, the higher the damage.
For safe elytra travel, always craft rockets with 3 gunpowder and no Firework Stars. Stars add explosion risk when the rocket detonates close to your body.

Frequently asked questions
How many gunpowder do I need for a Firework Rocket?
You need 1 to 3 gunpowder. One gunpowder gives the shortest flight duration, and three give the longest (about 3 seconds). More gunpowder also means a longer elytra boost.
Can I use Firework Rockets without a Firework Star?
Yes. A rocket without any Firework Star will fly but produce no explosion or visual effect. This is the recommended type for elytra travel since there is no risk of explosion damage.
How do I make a Firework Rocket boost my elytra?
While gliding with an elytra equipped, hold a Firework Rocket in your hand and right-click. The rocket fires and propels you forward. Rockets with more gunpowder provide a longer boost.
Can a crossbow shoot Firework Rockets?
Yes. Load a crossbow with a Firework Rocket from your inventory, then fire it as a projectile. Rockets loaded with Firework Stars deal explosion damage on impact based on the number of stars.
What shapes can a Firework Star explosion have?
The default is a small ball. Add a Fire Charge for a large ball, a Gold Nugget for a star shape, a Feather for a burst pattern, or a Mob Head for a creeper face. These items are added during the crafting of the Firework Star itself.
Can dispensers launch Firework Rockets automatically?
Yes. Place Firework Rockets inside a dispenser and power it with a redstone signal. The dispenser will launch one rocket each time it receives a pulse, making automated firework displays easy to build.
