Shulker Shell
Shulker Shell drops from shulkers in End cities and pairs with a chest to craft a Shulker Box for inventory-safe portable storage.
Description
Shulker Shell exists for a single, powerful purpose: two Shulker Shells placed above and below a chest on the crafting grid produce one Shulker Box. A Shulker Box keeps every stored item when it is broken and picked up, making it the only portable container in Minecraft and the standard tool for moving bulk loot, transporting an Elytra trip's supplies, or organizing bases. Because shells are the bottleneck ingredient, experienced players build shulker farms in End cities to mass-produce the 16 dyeable Shulker Box colors.

How to get a Shulker Shell and craft a Shulker Box in Minecraft
-
1
Travel to an End city
Reach the outer End islands through an End gateway, then locate a purple End city with its tall towers and an End ship.
-
2
Defeat shulkers
Attack the box-shaped shulkers built into End city walls; each killed shulker has a 50% chance to drop one Shulker Shell.
-
3
Collect two shells
Gather at least two Shulker Shells per box you want, since Looting does not improve the drop rate.
-
4
Craft the Shulker Box
Place one chest in the center of the crafting grid with a Shulker Shell directly above and below it to make a Shulker Box.
A shulker bullet that hits another shulker can spawn a new shulker, so a shulker farm makes Shulker Shells effectively renewable.

Frequently asked questions
Where do you get Shulker Shells in Minecraft?
Shulker Shells drop only from shulkers, which spawn in End cities and End ships on the outer End islands.
Does Looting increase Shulker Shell drops?
No. Each shulker has a fixed 50% chance to drop one Shulker Shell, and the Looting enchantment does not change that rate.
How many Shulker Shells make a Shulker Box?
Two Shulker Shells plus one chest craft a single Shulker Box, with the shells placed above and below the chest.
Are Shulker Shells renewable?
Yes, indirectly. A shulker bullet that hits another shulker can spawn a new shulker, allowing a farm to keep producing shells.
