Dead Horn Coral Block
Dead Horn Coral Block is the grey, stone-like form of Horn Coral that never needs water — ideal for permanent reef, aquarium, and shipwreck decoration.
Description
Unlike the bright yellow live version, Dead Horn Coral Block never needs water to survive, so builders use Dead Horn Coral Block for permanent grey accents in aquariums, shipwreck scenes, and ruined-reef decoration without any risk of decay. Dead Horn Coral Block pairs naturally with the four other dead variants — Dead Tube, Dead Brain, Dead Bubble, and Dead Fire Coral Block — to build textured, stone-like coral structures. Because Dead Horn Coral Block shares the muted grey palette of stone, Dead Horn Coral Block blends into underwater builds while keeping the distinctive antler-shaped coral silhouette.

How to get a Dead Horn Coral Block in Minecraft
-
1
Find live Horn Coral
Dive into a warm ocean biome and search the coral reefs, where yellow Horn Coral Blocks grow alongside tube, brain, bubble, and fire coral.
-
2
Let the coral die
Expose a live Horn Coral Block to open air away from water; within a short moment it turns grey and becomes a Dead Horn Coral Block automatically.
-
3
Mine with a pickaxe
Break the Dead Horn Coral Block with any pickaxe to collect it as an item. Mining it by hand or with another tool destroys the block and drops nothing.
To keep the coral alive and yellow instead, mine the original Horn Coral Block with a Silk Touch pickaxe and replace it in water. Without Silk Touch the live coral drops nothing, so most players simply harvest the grey dead version.
