Cinnabar is a vivid red ore-like decorative block introduced in Minecraft 26.2 "Chaos Cubed". Cinnabar generates naturally in the new Sulfur Caves biome, where Cinnabar deposits appear alongside Sulfur Cube mobs that roam the underground passages. Cinnabar requires a pickaxe to mine, dropping the block itself rather than a raw ore item, which makes Cinnabar a direct building resource. Builders use Cinnabar for crimson palettes, demon-themed temples, lava-side fortresses and accent walls where Redstone Block tones feel too saturated. How to find and use Cinnabar in Minecraft

    Locate a Sulfur Cave

    Dig down into the deep underground and search for a Sulfur Caves biome, the only place Cinnabar generates. Reddish Cinnabar bands appear next to yellow sulfur and sulfur springs.

    Mine Cinnabar with a pickaxe

    Break Cinnabar with any pickaxe (wooden or better). Mining it by hand drops nothing, and the block drops itself directly with no raw ore stage, so it is ready to place immediately.

    Craft decorative variants

    Use a Crafting Table or a Stonecutter to turn Cinnabar into Polished Cinnabar, Cinnabar Bricks, Chiseled Cinnabar, plus stairs, slabs and walls for each set.

    Place Cinnabar as accent walls, demon-themed temples or lava-side fortresses where Redstone Block looks too saturated. It pairs cleanly with Deepslate, Blackstone and Netherrack.

Sulfur Cube mobs in the same biome can absorb full-sized Cinnabar blocks, including the polished, brick and chiseled variants. Slabs, stairs and walls cannot be absorbed.
