Description

Cactus Flower is a renewable pink flower introduced in Minecraft Java Edition 1.21.5 and Bedrock Edition 1.21.70. The flower generates naturally on top of cacti in desert and badlands biomes, where 25% of wild cacti already carry one. A player-planted cactus one or two blocks tall has a 10% chance to sprout the flower instead of growing taller, and a three-block cactus raises that chance to 25%. Cactus Flower breaks instantly by hand, has a hardness of 0 and a blast resistance of 0, and stacks to 64.

Players use the bloom mainly as a Pink Dye ingredient: one Cactus Flower yields one Pink Dye on any crafting grid, matching the 1:1 dye yield of other single-flower recipes. Bees pollinate the flower to produce honey and can be fed the bloom to enter love mode and breed. Composters gain one level with a 30% chance per flower. The bloom cannot be placed in a flower pot and stops the cactus beneath it from growing taller, so desert builders often leave blooming cacti standing as a decorative hedge line.

How to get Cactus Flower in Minecraft

  1. 1

Find a desert or badlands biome

Travel to a desert or badlands biome, where cacti generate naturally. About one in four wild cacti already carries a Cactus Flower on top, so scan the cactus columns as you walk.

  2. 2

Grow a flower on a placed cactus

Plant a cactus on sand and let it grow to two or three blocks tall. A one or two block cactus has a 10% chance to sprout the flower instead of growing taller, and a three block cactus raises that chance to 25%.

  3. 3

    Break the flower by hand

Cactus Flower has a hardness of 0, so a single punch drops it instantly with no tool needed. Walk up and break the top block without harming the cactus below.

  4. 4

    Craft it into Pink Dye

Place one Cactus Flower anywhere on a crafting grid to receive one Pink Dye. The 1:1 ratio matches other single-flower dye recipes.

Watch for bees and pricks

Bees try to pollinate Cactus Flower and can take cactus damage while landing, so a flower-on-cactus farm can slowly kill wild bees. Surround the farm with non-prickly flowers to give bees a safer landing target.
