Description

The Waxed Block of Copper is a Block of Copper coated with honeycomb so the orange surface never oxidizes into green. Minecraft adds the block through Java Edition 1.17 and Bedrock Edition 1.16.210, and the waxed variant locks the freshly minted tone in place permanently. A stone pickaxe or better is required to mine the Waxed Block of Copper, otherwise the block drops nothing, and the block carries a hardness of 3 with a blast resistance of 6. The Waxed Block of Copper stacks to 64 and is fully renewable, because copper ingots come from smelting raw copper and honeycomb comes from bee nests. The shapeless crafting recipe is one Block of Copper plus one Honeycomb yields one Waxed Block of Copper, and a dispenser loaded with honeycomb can wax copper automatically. Builders choose the Waxed Block of Copper to keep roofs, statues, and trim permanently orange, because an ordinary Block of Copper fades through Exposed Copper, Weathered Copper, and Oxidized Copper over time. An axe scraped across the surface removes the wax and reverts the block to a non-waxed Block of Copper at the same oxidation stage, giving builders a manual undo for any mistake. The stonecutter converts the Waxed Block of Copper into waxed cut copper, waxed cut copper stairs, and waxed cut copper slabs, and every cut version inherits the same immunity to oxidation.

How to wax and unwax a Block of Copper in Minecraft

  1. 1

    Place a Block of Copper

Place a Block of Copper where the orange tone should stay permanent. A stone pickaxe or better is required to recover the Block of Copper later.

  2. 2

    Apply a Honeycomb

Right-click the Block of Copper with a Honeycomb in hand, or place one Block of Copper plus one Honeycomb anywhere on a crafting grid to apply the waxed state.

  3. 3

Verify the orange tone is locked

The placed block now reads as a Waxed Block of Copper and the orange surface will never progress to Exposed, Weathered, or Oxidized Copper.

  4. 4

    Automate with a dispenser

A dispenser loaded with Honeycomb can auto-wax adjacent copper, letting a redstone clock seal an entire wall of Waxed Block of Copper without manual clicking.

  5. 5

Scrape wax off with an axe

To undo the wax, right-click the Waxed Block of Copper with any axe to scrape the wax off, reverting the block to a non-waxed Block of Copper at the same oxidation stage.

Tool and version note

Mining the Waxed Block of Copper requires a stone pickaxe or better; wooden or gold pickaxes drop nothing. The waxed variant was added in Java Edition 1.17 and Bedrock Edition 1.16.210.
