Description

Stone Pressure Plate is a redstone component crafted from two stone blocks that outputs a full-strength signal when a player or mob steps onto it. Unlike the wooden pressure plate, it ignores dropped items, arrows, and experience orbs, so only living entities activate it. That makes the stone plate the standard choice for doors, traps, and mob-detection circuits where stray loot must never trigger the mechanism.

Players mine the plate with any pickaxe, and it drops itself when broken. Its flat grey texture blends into stone floors, castles, dungeons, and bunkers far better than wood. Common uses include opening iron doors, firing dispensers, resetting TNT traps, and building hidden floor switches. The recipe is cheap, so large bases can place dozens of plates without straining resources.

How to use a Stone Pressure Plate in Minecraft

  1. 1

    Craft the plate

Place two stone blocks side by side in the crafting grid to make one stone pressure plate.

  2. 2

    Place it on the floor

Put the plate on top of any solid block where a player or mob will walk; it sits flush with the ground.

  3. 3

    Connect a mechanism

Set the plate directly beside an iron door, dispenser, or piston, or run redstone dust from it to the device you want to power.

  4. 4

    Step on to activate

Walking onto the plate emits a strength-15 signal that lasts until you step off; dropped items and arrows will not trigger it.

Stone vs wooden plate

Stone and wooden pressure plates look similar but behave differently: the stone version reacts only to players and mobs, while the wooden one is also triggered by items, arrows, and other entities.
