Description

Raw Gold is a mineral item dropped when gold ore or deepslate gold ore is mined with an iron pickaxe or better. Fortune increases the drop count, while Silk Touch preserves the ore block instead. Raw Gold was added in Minecraft 1.17 so ordinary and deepslate ores could share one smelting material. One piece smelts into one Gold Ingot in a furnace or blast furnace.

Raw Gold can be packed in a 3×3 crafting grid to make one Block of Raw Gold, which stores nine pieces without losing material. Players commonly compress Raw Gold during long mining trips, then unpack the block before smelting. Raw Gold is not obtained from Nether Gold Ore, which drops Gold Nuggets instead. Use Fortune before smelting when the goal is to maximize ingot output.

Mining guide

How to obtain and process Raw Gold in Minecraft

  1. 1

    Find gold ore

Locate gold ore or deepslate gold ore in the Overworld; badlands biomes are especially useful for exposed gold ore.

  2. 2

    Mine with iron or better

Break the ore with an iron, diamond, or netherite pickaxe. Fortune can increase the Raw Gold drop count.

  3. 3

    Smelt or compress the haul

Smelt each Raw Gold into one Gold Ingot, or craft nine pieces into one Block of Raw Gold for compact storage.

Tool requirement

A wooden or stone pickaxe does not produce Raw Gold from gold ore.
