Raw chorus fruit grows on chorus plants across the outer End islands, the only place these tall, branching purple plants generate after a player defeats the Ender Dragon and travels through an End gateway. Popped Chorus Fruit was added in Minecraft 1.9, the Combat Update, and has a dried, lighter purple appearance than the glossy raw fruit. Unlike raw chorus fruit, Popped Chorus Fruit cannot be eaten and never triggers the random short-range teleport effect.

Popped Chorus Fruit serves purely as a crafting ingredient: four Popped Chorus Fruit arranged in a 2x2 grid produce four Purpur Blocks, the signature lavender building block of End cities, while four Popped Chorus Fruit combined with one blaze rod yield four End Rods for decorative lighting. Because chorus plants regrow on End stone, Popped Chorus Fruit is fully renewable, making it the reliable backbone of large purpur builds and End-themed bases. Set up a furnace array beside an automatic chorus farm to mass-produce Popped Chorus Fruit for Purpur Blocks, Purpur Pillars, and End Rod lighting.
