Description

Oxidized Copper Bulb is the final, fully weathered stage of the Copper Bulb light block added to Minecraft in the 1.21 Tricky Trials update. Each Oxidized Copper Bulb emits only light level 4 when lit, the dimmest output in the four-stage copper bulb family (15 for an unweathered bulb, 12 for exposed, 8 for weathered, and 4 for oxidized), and produces no light at all when unlit. A single redstone pulse flips an Oxidized Copper Bulb between lit and unlit, so the block keeps its state without continuous power and acts as a one-block T flip-flop in redstone builds.

Players craft an Oxidized Copper Bulb from three oxidized blocks of copper, one blaze rod, and one redstone dust on a crafting table, producing four bulbs per recipe, or let any copper bulb oxidize naturally over time. Oxidized Copper Bulb needs a stone pickaxe or better to mine and drops nothing if broken by hand. The oxidized look can be frozen with a honeycomb to make a waxed variant, and an axe scrapes the block back one oxidation stage toward a brighter bulb. Builders use Oxidized Copper Bulb for moody teal lighting in dungeons, ancient ruins, and horror-themed interiors where a faint green glow matters more than raw brightness.

How to use an Oxidized Copper Bulb in Minecraft

  1. 1

    Craft or oxidize the bulb

Place three oxidized blocks of copper, one blaze rod in the center, and one redstone dust below the rod on a crafting table to produce four Oxidized Copper Bulbs, or let any copper bulb weather over time.

  2. 2

Place the bulb in your build

Set the Oxidized Copper Bulb into a floor or wall where you want a faint teal light, such as a dungeon ceiling, an ancient ruin, or a horror-themed room.

  3. 3

    Send a redstone pulse

Power the Oxidized Copper Bulb once with a button, lever flick, or observer pulse to toggle it on and emit light level 4; send another pulse to turn it off.

  4. 4

    Lock the oxidized look

Right-click the Oxidized Copper Bulb with a honeycomb to wax it and freeze the dim teal stage, or scrape it with an axe to roll the bulb back to a brighter weathered, exposed, or plain copper bulb.

Java vs Bedrock

In Java Edition the Oxidized Copper Bulb toggles instantly with no delay, while in Bedrock Edition the block only updates on the redstone consumer tick, so pulse timing can feel slightly different.
