Description
Blaze rods drop from blazes — flying nether mobs that spawn from blaze spawners inside nether fortresses. Each blaze drops zero to two rods, with Looting III increasing the maximum to five per kill. Blazes are hostile at range and shoot fire charges, requiring fire resistance potions for safe farming.
Crafting a blaze rod with sticks in a grid yields a brewing stand, which is required to brew all potions in the game. Blaze rods serve as the only fuel that can power a brewing stand directly — one rod provides 20 brewing operations. Crafting two rods together produces blaze powder, the secondary resource.
Blaze powder has three main uses: activating an ender chest when combined with obsidian, crafting fire charges for flint-and-steel alternatives and dispenser-ignition, and most importantly combining with an ender pearl to create an eye of ender — the navigational item required to locate and activate the End portal in a stronghold. This makes blaze rods the gatekeeping resource for reaching the End dimension and fighting the Ender Dragon.
