Description

Oak Wood is the decorative bark-covered variant of the oak log, showing bark texture on all six sides instead of just four. Crafting four Oak Logs in a 2x2 grid yields three Oak Wood blocks, giving the block a softer visual return than the 1-log-to-4-planks ratio. The block has hardness 2, blast resistance 2, and an axe is the fastest tool, though it can be mined by hand. Right-clicking Oak Wood with an axe strips the bark and converts the block into Stripped Oak Wood. Oak Wood is fully renewable, because oak trees regrow from Oak Saplings indefinitely. The block can be placed in three orientations like a log, which makes Oak Wood a favourite for seamless pillars, support columns, and walls where exposed ends should not show rings. Like every oak-family block, Oak Wood is flammable, works as furnace fuel that smelts 1.5 items per block, and can be smelted into Charcoal. In Java Edition the block was introduced in 1.3.1, while Bedrock Edition players received the bark block in the v0.8.0 alpha. Use Oak Wood wherever a builder needs the dark vertical bark look without the log's ringed caps, and reserve Stripped Oak Wood for a cleaner pale variant of the same shape.

Java & Bedrock Guide

How to craft Oak Wood in Minecraft

  1. 1

    Gather four Oak Logs

Chop down an oak tree with an axe or by hand to collect at least four Oak Logs; an axe is noticeably faster.

  2. 2

    Open a 3x3 crafting grid

Use a crafting table, because the recipe needs a 2x2 area that the inventory grid cannot fully exploit for three outputs.

  3. 3

Place logs in a 2x2 square

Fill any 2x2 area of the 3x3 grid with four Oak Logs to produce three Oak Wood blocks as the output.

  4. 4

Strip the bark with an axe

Right-click the placed Oak Wood with any axe to remove the bark and turn the block into Stripped Oak Wood.

  5. 5

Orient the block as a pillar

Place Oak Wood so the bark runs vertically; the block accepts three orientations like a log, ideal for seamless columns and walls.

Tip

Oak Wood shows bark on all six sides, so the block never reveals the ringed end grain that Oak Log caps show when used as a pillar.

Frequently asked questions

How do you craft Oak Wood in Minecraft?

Place four Oak Logs in any 2x2 area of a crafting grid to produce three Oak Wood blocks, which show bark on all six sides.

What is the difference between Oak Wood and Oak Log?

Oak Log shows bark on four sides with ringed end caps, while Oak Wood is covered in bark on all six faces and never exposes the rings, making Oak Wood better for seamless pillars.

How do you turn Oak Wood into Stripped Oak Wood?

Right-click a placed Oak Wood block with any axe to strip the bark and convert the block into Stripped Oak Wood, a cleaner pale variant of the same shape.

Can Oak Wood be used as furnace fuel?

Yes. Oak Wood is flammable and works as furnace fuel, smelting 1.5 items per block, the same value as Oak Logs and Oak Planks.

Which Minecraft version introduced Oak Wood?

Java Edition added the Oak Wood block in version 1.3.1, while Bedrock Edition received the bark block in the v0.8.0 alpha.

Is Oak Wood renewable?

Yes. Oak Wood is fully renewable because oak trees regrow endlessly from Oak Saplings planted by the player.
