Description

The Netherite Shovel is the most durable shovel in Minecraft, added in the 1.16 Nether Update. You make it by upgrading a Diamond Shovel at a Smithing Table with one Netherite Ingot and a Netherite Upgrade Smithing Template. It has 2031 uses (2032 in Bedrock Edition) — far more than a Diamond Shovel's 1561 (1562 in Bedrock Edition) — and digs dirt, sand, gravel, clay, soul sand, and snow faster than a diamond shovel; only the fragile golden shovel, with 32 uses, digs faster. Like all netherite gear, the dropped Netherite Shovel is immune to fire and lava, so it is never lost in the Nether. Right-click grass or dirt to create a Dirt Path, and right-click a lit campfire to put it out. It accepts Efficiency, Unbreaking, Mending, Fortune, and Silk Touch.

How to make a Netherite Shovel in Minecraft

    Get a Netherite Ingot

    Mine Ancient Debris in the Nether, smelt it into Netherite Scrap, then combine four scrap with four Gold Ingots to craft one Netherite Ingot.

    Open a Smithing Table

    Place a Smithing Table and right-click it; you craft the table from two Iron Ingots and four wooden planks.

    Add the Smithing Template

    Put a Netherite Upgrade Smithing Template in the first slot, which is required in Java Edition 1.20 and later.

    Upgrade your Diamond Shovel

    Place a Diamond Shovel in the second slot and the Netherite Ingot in the third, then take the finished Netherite Shovel.

Important

Upgrading keeps the Diamond Shovel's current enchantments and durability, so enchant or repair it before the upgrade if you want to save materials.
