How to get and use Melon Slice in Minecraft
-
1
Grow a melon stem
Plant melon seeds on farmland next to water. When the stem matures it spawns a melon block on one free adjacent tile, so leave at least one empty dirt block beside each stem.
-
2
Harvest the melon block
Break the melon block with any tool or your bare hand to drop 3 to 7 melon slices. A tool enchanted with Fortune III raises the maximum yield to 9 slices.
-
3
Eat the slices
Hold a melon slice and hold use (right-click) to eat it, restoring 2 hunger points and 1.2 saturation as a fast renewable early-game food.
-
4
Craft a glistering melon slice
Place one melon slice in the centre of the crafting grid and surround it with 8 gold nuggets to make a glistering melon slice for brewing.
-
5
Brew a Potion of Healing
Put the glistering melon slice on top of an Awkward Potion in a brewing stand to brew a Potion of Healing that restores health instantly.
Melon slices drop, eat and craft identically in Java and Bedrock Edition. Only a fully mature stem regrows melon blocks, so keep one open tile next to each stem for continuous automatic harvesting.

Frequently asked questions
Can you craft a Melon Slice?
No. Melon slices are not crafted directly — you obtain them by breaking a melon block, which drops 3 to 7 slices. You can, however, craft 9 melon slices back into a full melon block.
How much hunger does a Melon Slice restore?
A melon slice restores 2 hunger points (one drumstick on the hunger bar) and 1.2 saturation, making it a weak but renewable early-game food.
What is a Melon Slice used for?
Besides eating, a melon slice crafts into a glistering melon slice with 8 gold nuggets, which brews Potions of Healing. Nine slices also reform a melon block.
Does Melon Slice work in both Java and Bedrock?
Yes. Melon slices drop, stack to 64, eat and craft identically in Java and Bedrock Edition.
Are Melon Slices renewable?
Yes. A mature melon stem keeps spawning new melon blocks on adjacent farmland, so a single planted stem yields melon slices indefinitely without replanting.
