Map is crafted from paper around a compass in the standard locator recipe, producing an empty item that activates when used. Once opened, it records terrain around the player at a fixed scale. Exploring fills in colours for land, water, structures, and biome surfaces, while player markers help orientation when locator behaviour is available.
Cartography tables expand zoom level, clone copies, and lock maps with glass panes so builds stay preserved even after terrain changes. Item frames turn them into wall panels, allowing huge base maps, treasure-room displays, and server spawn guides. The entry matters for exploration because it converts travel into a persistent visual record instead of temporary coordinates.
