How to craft and use a Golden Hoe in Minecraft
-
1
Craft the Golden Hoe
Place two gold ingots in the top-left and top-middle slots of the crafting grid, then put a stick in the center and another stick directly below it.
-
2
Till the ground
Hold the Golden Hoe and use (right-click) it on dirt, grass blocks, or coarse dirt to turn the surface into farmland ready for seeds.
-
3
Enchant it at an enchanting table
Use its enchantability of 22 — the highest of any tool — to roll high-level enchantments like Fortune III or Unbreaking III cheaply.
-
4
Break hoe-mineable blocks faster
Use it on hay bales, dried kelp blocks, nether wart blocks, sculk, and moss to harvest them quicker than by hand.
The Golden Hoe lasts only 32 uses. Add Unbreaking and Mending to keep it usable, or save gold for repairs at an anvil.

Frequently asked questions
How do you craft a Golden Hoe?
Place two gold ingots across the top row's left and middle slots, then a stick in the center and a stick below it, to make one Golden Hoe.
Why use a Golden Hoe if it breaks so fast?
It has enchantability 22, the highest of any tool, so it gets strong enchantments cheaply at an enchanting table despite only 32 durability.
Is the Golden Hoe a good weapon?
No. It deals just 1 point of attack damage, the lowest of any hoe, so it is almost useless in combat.
What blocks does the Golden Hoe break faster?
Hay bales, dried kelp blocks, nether wart blocks, sculk, shroomlight, and moss are all mined faster with a hoe since Java Edition 1.17.
