Description

Flow Armor Trim is a smithing template added in Java Edition 1.21 (snapshot 24w18a) with the Trial Chambers update. Flow Armor Trim drops only from ominous vaults inside Trial Chambers, at a 22.5% chance per vault opened with an Ominous Trial Key. Applied at a smithing table, Flow Armor Trim stamps a fluid, wave-like pattern onto any armor piece — helmet, chestplate, leggings, or boots — across every tier from leather to netherite. Flow Armor Trim is purely cosmetic and changes no armor points, durability, or enchantments.

To apply Flow Armor Trim, place the template, one armor piece, and one trim material in a smithing table; the template is consumed. Any of the 11 trim materials — amethyst shard, copper ingot, diamond, emerald, gold ingot, iron ingot, lapis lazuli, nether quartz, netherite ingot, redstone dust, or resin brick — sets the pattern color, so one Flow Armor Trim can produce 11 different looks. To make extra copies before applying, combine one Flow Armor Trim template with seven diamonds and one breeze rod on a crafting table to get two templates. Flow Armor Trim and Bolt Armor Trim are the only two trims exclusive to Trial Chambers.

Java Edition Guide

How to apply Flow Armor Trim in Minecraft

  1. 1

    Loot the Flow template

Open ominous vaults in a Trial Chamber using an Ominous Trial Key — Flow Armor Trim drops from an ominous vault at a 22.5% chance.

  2. 2

    Open a smithing table

Right-click a smithing table to reveal its three input slots: template, armor, and material.

  3. 3

    Place template, armor and material

Put Flow Armor Trim in the template slot, an armor piece in the armor slot, and a trim material such as a gold ingot in the material slot.

  4. 4

    Take the trimmed armor

Drag the result out of the smithing table. The Flow pattern appears in the color of the chosen material, and the template is used up.

Duplicate before you trim

Each application consumes the template. To keep Flow Armor Trim, combine one template with seven diamonds and one breeze rod on a crafting table to get two copies before trimming a full armor set.
