Description

Bolt Armor Trim is one of the two armor trim smithing templates exclusive to Trial Chambers in Java 1.21, the other being Flow. Unlike Flow, which drops only from Ominous Vaults, Bolt is the accessible one: it comes from standard Vaults opened with ordinary Trial Keys and from reward chests, with a 6.3% chance. No Bad Omen or Ominous Trial is required, so you can farm it on any visit to the structure.

The pattern itself features sharp, jagged diagonal lines that resemble a lightning bolt running down the armor piece. Like all trims, it has no combat or utility effect — the template is applied at a smithing table alongside a trim material, and the chosen material color determines the final shade of the pattern. The template is consumed on use, so duplicating it beforehand with seven diamonds and a copper block (yielding two copies) is essential for players who want the look on all four armor slots.

How to get and use the Bolt Armor Trim in Minecraft

  1. 1

    Find a Trial Chamber

Explore the deep underground around the deepslate layer to locate a Trial Chamber — the copper-and-tuff structure added in 1.21.

  2. 2

    Collect Trial Keys

Defeat the mob waves at the trial spawners inside the chamber; each cleared spawner drops Trial Keys.

  3. 3

    Open standard Vaults

Use the Trial Keys on standard Vaults and loot the reward chests — the Bolt Armor Trim template is one of the possible rewards, with about a 6.3% chance.

  4. 4

    Duplicate the template first

Place the Bolt template, seven diamonds and one copper block in a crafting grid to make two copies, since the template is consumed when applied.

  5. 5

Apply it at a smithing table

Combine an armor piece, the Bolt template and a trim material at a smithing table; the material you pick sets the color of the lightning pattern.

Bolt vs Flow

Bolt and Flow are the only trims tied to Trial Chambers. Bolt drops from standard Vaults opened with Trial Keys, while the rarer Flow comes only from Ominous Vaults.
