Egg
Egg is a throwable item dropped by chickens — toss one for a 1-in-8 chance to hatch a baby chick, or bake it into cake and pumpkin pie.
Description
Throwing an Egg gives a 1-in-8 chance to hatch one baby chick, with a rare 1-in-32 chance to spawn four chicks at once, making Egg the core of automatic chicken farms. Egg is also a cooking ingredient: one Egg goes into every Cake alongside milk, sugar, and wheat, and into every Pumpkin Pie with a pumpkin and sugar. Keep a few eggs in your inventory for quick food crafting or to kick-start a self-sustaining chicken farm.

How to get and use an Egg in Minecraft
-
1
Find or breed chickens
Locate wild chickens in grassy biomes or feed two chickens seeds to breed your own flock.
-
2
Collect dropped eggs
Each chicken lays one egg every 5 to 10 minutes; pick them up off the ground near your chickens.
-
3
Throw eggs to hatch chicks
Use the throw button to toss an egg; each throw has a 1/8 chance to spawn a baby chick.
-
4
Cook with eggs
Place one egg in the crafting grid with the right ingredients to make Cake or Pumpkin Pie.
Eggs cannot be smelted or used as fuel, and thrown eggs that fail to hatch are simply lost — collect plenty before mass-throwing for a chicken farm.

Do eggs work in both Java and Bedrock?
Yes. Eggs are dropped by chickens, throwable, and usable in the same recipes in both Java and Bedrock Edition.
